How to get root/admin privilege in Linux? - Bshol - Sep 8, 2025

Anyone can help me to get admin privilege in Linux? Now, my account is "apache" user account, which can't edit the file.
I want to edit all the files with root authority.

Use Linpeas and see which exploit vector. I have a strong feeling this is either cronjob privilege escalation etc.. which is quite common in the wild but it isn't that straight forward as in the goofy/stupid CTFs u see out there.

If you want , let me have a look then.

That's PrivEsc. I'd recommend doing this:

1. Check for low hanging fruit yourself instead of using a script

Run sudo -l, can you exploit the binaries or programs listed?

Exploit the sudo version if possible for root access

If you have access to a user, you can do sudo su root which works in most home Linux systems but I'm not sure if it's fit for servers

Check if cronjobs are editable, have an exploitable PATH, could be vulnerable to PATH exploitation etc.

You can run Linux Enumeration scripts (I don't like LinPEAS) to check for weird SUID binaries and instant PrivEsc vectors.
