Discovery of an 86-Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Egg in China - Jamika - Oct 4, 2025
Quote:Chinese scientists have determined the age of a rare dinosaur egg discovered in central China to be around 86 million years, using a method never before applied to fossilized eggshells. The fossil was found in the mountains near a tributary of the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, a region long known for its rich deposits of prehistoric remains, according to Greek Reporter.
The researchers applied the uranium-lead dating technique—commonly used to determine the age of rocks on Earth and the Moon—to the carbonate minerals within the eggshell. By measuring how uranium slowly decays into lead in the minerals over millions of years, the team was able to determine that the eggshell formed between 87.65 and 84.17 million years ago.
It would be amazing if they could use the DNA in the egg to produce a small dinosaur.

Do you know if this is the first time they have ever found this, or just rare?
