Amazon web outage full list of every service affected including Ring and Alexa - MadScientist - Oct 20, 2025

Dozens of websites and apps are down today following a global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage.

AWS powers the infrastructure behind many digital platforms, but the service is currently experiencing issues - meaning a large number of online services are currently not working properly.

This includes Snapchat, Slack, Ring, Signal, Virgin Media, BT, EE and Sky, as well as the websites and apps of major UK banks such as Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland. The HMRC website has also been down today.

AWS has confirmed it has identified the potential cause of the issue and says most services are now coming back. The latest update reads: "We continue to observe recovery across most of the affected AWS Services.

We can confirm global services and features that rely on US-EAST-1 have also recovered. We continue to work towards full resolution and will provide updates as we have more information to share."

Heard about this today and was shocked. Have they metioned if it was an attack or anything like that yet?

From what I've read thus far it was a DNS issue with DynamoDB that most services use, sounds more like it wasnt an attack - if its that bad with a technical error couldnt imagine if it was a targeted attack and how that would affect the internet as a whole. Downside of centralization huh?

Figures, half the internet goes down anytime AWS sneezes. Wild how dependent everything’s become on one region. Glad it’s recovering, but it’s a good reminder that “the cloud” is still just someone else’s data center.

Downside of centralization would be a very interesting day where I can see everyone not being on their phones and coming outside and talking to each other again like its the old days.

Just seems wierd how a few major networks have been having offline service issues and then this. Just seems very odd to me.

Agree, lots of companies cover up attacks for ages or even indefinitely for good. I'm curious to see what comes out as things go along. Endless list of companies covering up attacks for one reason or another. I'll definitely be following this story. Right there with you.

As you may know I am someone who is a Uk user and a few major networks over the last month have been all of a sudden gone offline. Around a week apart from each other and one of them being vodafone went offline with there sim service and home broadband service and then said it wasnt anything malicious but wouldnt say anything else about it. But the fact they instantly went for its not malicious we promise just seems off to me as it would normaly just be something like oh our update broke this...

We can both cover it together I am sure we may find something for the HF news near the end of the mess.
