Strict Moderation Might Be the Only Thing Keeping Online Communities Alive - ClickAds - Oct 21, 2025

Everyone loves to complain about mods mainly , deleted posts, random warnings, threads locked for being “low effort.” But honestly, every time I’ve seen a place with zero moderation, it goes downhill fast. Spam, arguments, ego fights… and the people who actually post good stuff slowly stop showing up.

I’ve watched solid communities fall apart just because the staff stopped enforcing rules.
At the same time, there’s a fine line between keeping order and power tripping. When mods start acting inconsistent or show bias, that’s when the trust dies.

What's your opinion on this thought ?

Hackforums doesn't have any moderation any more, only scams/multi-accounters are what get moderated, but you are correct, a lack of moderation leads to a higher amount of LQ posts which leads to HQ users stop showing up and the overall quality decreases, look at Twitter, it's a shit hole now ever since Elon started encouraging rage bait and bots. Can't open Twitter without seeing someone getting murdered or some shit.

It's an important part of keeping forums alive and somewhat quality, but not the only part. Online forums have been in a decline for years now, but I'm still enjoying HF.
