That's a huge deal for Meta

I heard the local community and residents are furious and totally against this from happening. They feel like they only chose that location due to it being much more cost effective compared to other locations.

DCs are gold for them right now. The only way up for certain AI tech is with more chips, more servers, more DCs, more energy.
Energy influences much of global transport & a lot of economic factors.
As DC demand goes up, and as AI takes over much of the world's tech/digital services, we can realistically expect other costs to also go up.

For these reasons, I think we'll see more and more deals like this. Companies with the funds see the writing on the wall. You'll need computing power much like people need it for mining / market share in crypto ...

Meta has existing business in this space & can use a DC for a number of reasons. This lets them utilize their investment immediately, while still also having a long term vision imo

It makes sense. And so large projects can be catastrophic for the local ecosystem/environment.

Oh yeah that was one of the reasons they were against it because it was horrible for the local farmlands and environments. And they definitely have a point I'm sure it is
