Black mold - Hackers - Oct 30, 2025 Black mold is not great at all, but many tenants might not know when the last real mold inspection was taken by their landlord. If you live in a place that can get humid, wet, or an older home then you should look into this. You can do a basic inspection on your own, and if you do hire a company make sure you do full research, check for the day-of service technicians' certifications & matching ID, and ensure your insurance company will actually cover anything that the in-home specialist may recommend. Those are my tips for that... I've worked with a number of home services throughout the years for online websites & office setups/workflows. I don't have a mold problem, but am realizing that our landlord has not done a mold inspection in a few years so it would be worth it for me to ask for one. RE: Black mold - Aeowulf - Oct 30, 2025 I'm a landlord and I've never done a "mold inspection." If you take care of the properties, and clean them properly, there's usually nothing to worry about. I'm actually doing a rehab of one I recently purchased right now. There was an obvious mold issue, no inspection needed to see it. We ripped out every wall, floor, joist, and have re-built the house from the ground up. The crawl space has been encapsulated and there's a dehumidifier under there now. Still haven't done a mold inspection... EDIT: Honestly, I think I just get annoyed at all the "inspections" people try to sell and demand, when most of the time, someone that knows what TF they're doing wouldn't have those issues anyway. RE: Black mold - JoshAllen - Oct 30, 2025 Black mold can be bad for your health, but I personally wouldn't worry about it. If you have a mold problem, you will be able to see it. Moderate your houses humidity and temperature. Mold inspections are usually for home buyers incase the seller is trying to hide something. Yeah, if there's a problem, you'll know about it. They do include some mold in our WIR inspections (Wood Infestation Report), usually includes termites, pests, wood-eating fungus, etc... but they just say if they see it, to get a mold specialist to analyze it. So.... still not a smoking gun. RE: Black mold - DramaKing - Oct 30, 2025 I have a cousin who was recently conned into buying a house with his wife that was full of mold. The place practically has to be gutted. It's also an electrical fire hazard to boot. Previous owners lied about fixing the problems, and I think the full extent was not known. RE: Black mold - B3A - Oct 31, 2025 I'm allergic to mold . It caused me asthma when I was a kid. That’s why home inspections are mandatory and don’t rely on seller RE: Black mold - The Pact - Nov 1, 2025 (Oct 30, 2025 06:22 PM)nodes Wrote: Black mold is not great at all, but many tenants might not know when the last real mold inspection was taken by their landlord.
