As many went to sleep after a day of food and family and presents, Kohberger pulled out his phone and began downloading information on serial killers.
Not one serial killer, or two, or even a general search of the term "serial killer."
Instead, Bryan Kohberger downloaded in depth information on more than 20 specific serial killers, a task that carried him well past midnight and into the early hours of the following day, digital forensics expert Heather Barnhart tells PEOPLE.

Cellebrite is the software that can pick up all your deleted texts and history and bring it back for the cops.
Barnhart notes that Kohberger had previously downloaded information about Danny Rolling on Nov. 19, a week after the murders.
The Idaho murders are almost copycat killings of the ones carried out by Rolling — also known as "The Gainesville Ripper" — back in 1990.
Rolling killed five college students — four women and one man — by breaking into their homes through sliding glass doors and stabbing them to death with a KA-BAR knife.
Kohberger killed four college students — three women and one man — by breaking into their home through a sliding glass door and stabbing them to death with a KA-BAR knife.
The one difference is that Rolling would sexually assault his victims before or after stabbing them to death. There is no evidence Kohberger sexually assaulted his victims, per prosecutors.

Have they figured out any reason why Kohberger did this?
It's insane how similar it was to Danny Rolling.

Kohberger was a criminology Ph.D. student at Washington State University, with a specific interest in how emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime. His specific field of study was reported to be sexual burglary. So, he was doing a PhD thesis on men who break into a house to steal things and then commit sexual assault as well. I've never even heard the term "sexual burglary" before. . Although he didn't commit sexual assault during or after the murders. He also clearly had an interest in serial killers but what he did was a spree killing.
No formal motive has ever been established, but Kohberger visited the restaurant where two of the victims work. Most people interested in true crime or criminology are not dangerous or sick. lol But his fascination to the point where he had a masters degree in criminology and was working towards a PhD makes it seem like it was a cross between his fascination with crime and his being an angry incel. He had only 18 personal contacts on any devices including his mother, sister and father.
Some sources claim he messaged on of the victims but they never say which one and it may be a mistake because what is reported is that he messaged another student whom he met at a party and that he kept messaging her about how the talked about hiking at the party and she felt obliged to respond. But that person was called Holly last name witheld so that isn't one of the victims. I just looked this stuff up now I never really looked into this case.
