Scraping AI Chatbots - Alien_Mayhem - Dec 9, 2025 Has anyone successfully scraped any of the major AI chat interfaces? GPT, Gemini, Grok, etc? What has been working? RE: Scraping AI Chatbots - Lefty - Jan 28, 2026 They would change their layout too much and have bot detection in place, hard but not impossible RE: Scraping AI Chatbots - snoopy717 - Feb 3, 2026 Yes. People do automate and scrape these UIs; here’s what’s commonly used: 1. ChatGPT Browser automation: Playwright/Puppeteer driving the chat website. Examples: chatgpt-web.js, ChatGPTPlaywright, puppeteer-gpt, chatgpt-browser (Node). They log in (or use your session), send prompts, and read responses from the DOM/network. Commercial APIs: Oxylabs “ChatGPT Scraper” and Bright Data–style products offer hosted scraping (they handle browsers/proxies). Reality: Works as long as the site’s structure and auth flow don’t change; when OpenAI updates the UI, these break until maintainers update selectors/flow. 2. Gemini Scraping the chat UI is less common; most automation uses the official Gemini API (and sometimes “Computer Use”–style APIs with browser control). Commercial: Some vendors (e.g. Bright Data) list “Gemini” scrapers that likely automate the web UI or use APIs under the hood. 3. Grok Commercial: Dedicated “Grok scrapers” exist (e.g. Bright Data), usually as managed scraping/API products. Open source: Fewer well-known unofficial “Grok web UI” automators compared to ChatGPT. What’s generally been working Playwright or Puppeteer against the actual chat web app (login, type prompt, wait for response, extract text). Unofficial “ChatGPT web” libraries that wrap that flow in a simple API. Commercial scraper/API services that handle browsers, anti-bot, and scaling. Official APIs where available (e.g. OpenAI, Gemini) to avoid scraping the chat UI at all. Caveats ToS: Automating or scraping the web UIs usually violates the providers’ terms of service; use at your own risk. Fragility: Any UI change can break selectors and flows. Auth: You typically need real login/session or cookies; headless detection and rate limits can block you. Bottom line: Yes, people have successfully scraped/automated these interfaces. The most common approach that “has been working” is browser automation (Playwright/Puppeteer) on the chat website, plus commercial scraper APIs for scale; for Gemini (and where possible elsewhere), official APIs are the more stable option than scraping the chat UI. |
