Anyone Remember the Wild IRC Days of the Early 2010s? - R5N3T - Dec 12, 2025

Hey everyone,

Back in the early 2010s, I used to hang around IRC channels where things were… let’s just say a bit wild. People shared all kinds of stuff, and the atmosphere felt like an underground internet world where anything could happen.

It made me wonder—do communities like that still exist today? Not the illegal side of it, but more of the old-school IRC vibe: tight-knit groups, tech discussions, and that chaotic energy you don’t really find anywhere else anymore.

If there are still groups like that—the legal ones, of course—I’d love to check them out just for nostalgia’s sake.
Hahaha, good old times!

I used to use IRC because there were channels there where people often shared credit card details and other things.

I use IRC to get my ebooks, that's all.

Certainly been tempted to spin up my own server for comms, but I'm not sketch enough to need it

Yeah I remember in the early 2010 it was a blast hanging out. The community was way different, more about silly pranks and hacktivism than any form of making money - At least in the ones I hung out in.

Like the person in the post above me just mentioned it's great for ebooks, I've only recently learned of an Ebook IRC and it's had every single book I've ever looked up so far regarding programming and cyber security. Really appreciate whoever that was that told that IRC in HF Convo - https://hackforums.net/convo.php?action=all JOOOOIIIN US!

If anyone has any current servers that are actually active even if only slightly shoot me a DM with the server info :D I would love to find some active servers again:D
