What are your predictions on BTC? - James Burnham - Jan 11, 2026

Where do you think it will go the following months?

Does this hold any water? https://www.forbes.com/sites/digital-assets/2026/01/09/goldman-sachs-just-issued-a-huge-2026-crypto-forecast-as-200000-bitcoin-price-predicted/

Sideways action within 25% of $100k. Just a lot of up and down and up and down.

RE: What are your predictions on BTC? - Yanix - Jan 20, 2026

Hopefully the next few months will be better and bring more good days.

if it will go this low, why do you have 1.5 BTC? Or even crypto? Just tether it lol

What about the tax implications behind all this though? Since it’s almost like a short term gamble. Taxes are so much higher just swing trading like this

RE: What are your predictions on BTC? - Hackers - Jan 20, 2026

Same as I've been saying on HF for over a year (and longer elsewhere)

We'll likely see 60-70k, or 70-80k as more plausible / optimistic, and we'll likely see the next push into the 150-160 range, with a massive ATH in the future (years) for 360-430K.

I thought we'd see 112K as a top instead of 120-125 so I am treating my 60-70k prediction as lower as well for 70-80k.
However, Murphy's Law. If my 112 became over 120, then surely my 60 will be 50 haha!

All in all, not stressed, and I have stuck to my word. I am not buying Bitcoin in bulk. I will buy in the 70s to restock

I am effectively shorting Bitcoin for many months now by not buying. I am a little salty that I got accused of AI a few months ago because I said the same shit in January & February 2025, and am saying it again now. I've had a prediction of 360-430K top for 8 years now and counting.

WRONG!
You’re going to owe ALOT of taxes soon lol

AI Quote:
Yes. Crypto-to-crypto trades are taxable in the U.S. — including BTC → USDT, BTC → ETH, ETH → SOL, etc.

Here’s the clear breakdown 👇

⸻

🔹 Is BTC → USDT taxable?

Yes.
The IRS treats this as selling BTC and then buying USDT.

That means:
• You realize a capital gain or loss on the BTC at the moment you trade it.
• It does not matter that you stayed “inside crypto.”
• Stablecoins like USDT are treated like property, not cash.

⸻

🔹 How the gain is calculated

Gain/Loss = Value of BTC at trade − Your BTC cost basis

Example:
• You bought BTC at $30,000
• You trade it for USDT when BTC is $45,000

👉 Taxable gain = $15,000

Even though you never touched USD.

⸻

🔹 Short-term vs Long-term
• Held < 1 year → Short-term capital gains
• Taxed as ordinary income (same as your paycheck)
• Held ≥ 1 year → Long-term capital gains
• Typically 0% / 15% / 20%, depending on income

⸻

🔹 What is NOT taxable

✅ Transferring crypto between your own wallets
✅ Holding crypto (no sale)
✅ Buying crypto with USD (no sale yet)

⸻

🔹 What IS taxable

❌ BTC → USDT
❌ BTC → ETH
❌ USDT → USD
❌ Paying for something with crypto
❌ Earning crypto (staking, mining, airdrops, rewards)

⸻

🔹 Do exchanges report this?
• Yes, many U.S. exchanges issue 1099 forms
• Even if they don’t, you are still legally required to report
• Blockchain ≠ anonymous for taxes

⸻

🔹 Common misconception (important)

“I didn’t cash out, so it’s not taxable”

❌ False

The IRS considers any disposal of crypto a taxable event.

⸻

🔹 Practical tip

If you trade often:
• Use tools like CoinTracker, Koinly, or Accointing
• They track cost basis automatically and generate tax forms

⸻

If you want, tell me:
• How long you held the BTC
• Rough gain amount
• Your income range

And I can estimate exact tax owed for your situation.

Looks like it’s really heading that direction. We’re close to 75k. I wonder the reason for the dumps are for this time.
