Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - junooo - Jan 21, 2026 I see so many young men, my age, in IT jobs because it pays a lot. I go to CTF's only to be met with depressed, lonely, scared of women types that can't both have a conversation AND look you in the eyes. What the hell is going on?? Are there no extroverted, socially adept (, single :P) IT guys that are passionate about cyber anymore?? Where do they spawn? :( RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - Terry A. Davis - Jan 21, 2026 I have only become an extrovert thanks to technology, I would've been one of those. Plus, people can be autistic, especially in tech where it's usually more black and white than other things in life, so they appear introverted, but might just be on the spectrum of retard. So many people got into IT because it pays well not because the passion of the thing, so it really hits harder when you love the thing and yearn to do the thing, but most are here for the money. I'ts great to hear that you have found yourself in technology. Why are there not more like you? Also I can handle the spectrum. I can see the difference between autism and just social ineptitude. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - Terry A. Davis - Jan 21, 2026 There are lots like me, there are 8 billion people in the world, give or take some for those who died while I wrote this. Most people don't actually take the time out of their day to think they can be different than what they are, so most people will never actually realize that they can be it. Aspergers isn't autism but does influence social ability. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - junooo - Jan 21, 2026 (Jan 21, 2026 01:58 PM)Terry A. You are right, they are on that spectrum, I am not saying you're wrong. I know socially inept people exist, I have seen plenty in my time that struggle to read a room, I think I am trying to argue that the Venn Diagram crossover is very... Let's just say that you can never be sure if it's ineptness or spectrum. I have been told a few times that I'll say things that I think are fine to say but turn out to be a bit of a tone shift let's say, but I don't know if it's social ineptness or the neuro spice. I know some people are just not good socially, but autism things you just pick up on. I also know a lot of people with autism that are great socially. I genuinely just want a man that is passionate about cyber, who is confident and who can just have a conversation with me and look me in my eyes lol. I guess I'm just venting xD RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - Terry A. Davis - Jan 21, 2026 You probably are. It's like tech attracts femboys, you're going to notice it also attracts tism. It sounds like you're doing steps to find what you want, so hopefully those steps get you to your goal. Just remember, the big tiddy goth gf doesn't fall on your lap being a keyboard warrior at home. You need to be worthy of it. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - CL1B - Jan 22, 2026 (Jan 21, 2026 01:44 PM)junooo Wrote: I see so many young men, my age, in IT jobs because it pays a lot. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - Hackers - Jan 22, 2026 They still exist, but not sure about the younger kids. I've heard from many teachers and others that the younger generation is not as socially capable, and also borderline tech illiterate. Gen Z is comparable to Boomers for tech / computer literacy, statistically. I always played sports and then nerded out at night too. In later life, I threw a lot of big parties but also freelanced and then started a tech company. We do exist! But yeah... there are stereotypes you will see in IT in general. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - Dystortion - Jan 27, 2026 The passion is near lost because it's so difficult to get into the industry that you must be so insanely driven to even get close these days. that's if you ain't going through a serious amount of degrees and stuff that don't guarantee a position anywhere. Yet it's apparently in such high demand. RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - FrostMost - Jan 29, 2026 As a new gen I completely agree with you on this one. I have some acquaintances who are going to the CS major just because of pay and career opportunities while not even knowing what the for loop is. It has become so depressing really. Though things are even worse when u consider that this thing doesnt happen only in software engineering but also in cyber security. I have heard that "cyber punks" till 2020s were just learning and improving simply cuz of the "lolz" and it was just for shits and giggles but now they are chasing 6 figures. Its good to see that there are still guys preserving the same old mindset tho man highly appreciate ur post ✌️✌️✌️ RE: Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? Is nobody passionate about cs anymore? - DNA - Jan 29, 2026 I've been programming for two and a half decades now, the passion has faded, mainly because operating your own business takes that desire and runs it into the ground, it becomes a chore not a task you do for fun. Today is the first time in 10 years that I have to return to paid work. In this industry, only hype is appreciated, actual skill is often ignored. If you work in I.T., you should be working under someone who can afford it, not attempting to run your own business, especially with grandiose expectations. I hope someone reads what I am saying and thinks twice if they intend to make the same mistake that I did. I have been humbled by the system. |
