Looking for gadgets to assist with 24/7 remote shift job - Powdersnow - Mar 20, 2026

I was recently assigned to another department at my job that operates 24/7 with 99% remote work.

In summary, the job is part of a first response team that monitors emails, notifications, and phone calls, and takes action accordingly.

I’m not really a night person, per se, but in the event that I do doze off from time to time while at my laptop, the gadgets would be triggered based on certain conditions.

Things I’ve considered so far:
  • A smart bulb that turns on based on conditions: Light bothers me at night if it’s turned on, so when it does turn on, I’ll know a condition was triggered. I recently purchased one, but it doesn’t allow conditions in the app to trigger based on phone notifications, such as those from a specific app. If anyone knows of a bulb I can purchase that supports different conditions, I’d appreciate it.

  • Outlook playing a specific sound if an email matching certain conditions is received: This would only be considered if I’m somewhere that the sound wouldn’t bother others when triggered.

  • A device that vibrates strongly based on conditions: If the light or sound doesn’t catch my attention immediately, vibrations on my bed or body would alert me that a condition was met. If anyone knows of a device of such I can purchase that supports different conditions, I’d appreciate it.

I would appreciate any suggestions for gadgets to purchase or advice from people who work 24/7 hybrid or work-from-home jobs.
