The feature is optional, and yes, malware can just request a dozen individual permissions.

This is interesting to hear. I javent heard much about thos but km going to start checking up.on this. But yes I agree it will destroy legitimate apps as well so we will see how this will go.

Don't see a point in going this far, as it will hurt legitimate things as well as harmful apps. Users being required to learn basic tech literacy would go quite a long way with stopping a lot of things. My parents all still click random links given to them, even if it comes from their friend on Facebook who never sends anything. I've tried to tell them they need to be more careful, but the literal response I get is well Facebook would say the link is suspicious. Relying on Facebook to check the security of shit you're doing is probably the wildest take I've heard on the subject. Sadly, quite a lot of people need this on their device, just because of their own incompetence and either lack of understanding or lack of trying to understand.

Well considering Android blocking sideloading apps from later this year, this should become irrelevant anyway.

Nah, they backtracked a bit/clarified. It will still be allowed, just with more steps and a waiting period involved.

Are they not going to do developer verification for any apk/app which will be sideloaded?

Pretty sure it's still going through, but you'll be able to go around it with a workaround Google is providing.
