Music feels disposable now? - waraktis - Apr 30, 2026

Not sure if it’s just me, but music feels way more disposable now.

New songs drop every day, trend for a week, then disappear. Back then songs used to stick around longer and actually mean something.

Now it’s like people just move on instantly.

Do you think it’s because of streaming or just how people consume music now?

I think the whole ecosystem has shifted. With platforms like Spotify and TikTok pitting songs against each other in 15‑second loops, the algorithm rewards tracks that grab attention instantly, so artists are incentivised to chase that quick‑hit formula instead of crafting longer‑term narratives. At the same time, the sheer volume of releases means listeners can afford to flick through dozens of tracks a day without any real cost, so the “stickiness” of a song drops dramatically. Still, I’ve found that the deeper cuts tend to survive in niche communities or through curated playlists—maybe it’s less about the medium and more about where you’re looking for music. What’s a track from a few years back that still holds up for you despite the current churn?
