Yall feeling it? - Yin Yang - May 18, 2026

“Grocery prices jumped more in April than they did in nearly four years” 🫠

I’ve basically stopped buying beef and steak lately. But even beyond meat, even simple staples like eggs, cheese, bread, etc. feel noticeably more expensive now.

Are there any foods or items you’ve started avoiding when shopping because of the prices?

I've been fortunate in the sense that I haven't had to start avoiding specific items, but we definitely have been focusing more on essentials as opposed to unnecessary items like soda for example. It's awful how expensive everything has become. The economy is absolutely fucked.

Yeah I’ve noticed it too. It’s not even luxury items anymore, it’s the basic everyday stuff that quietly drains your wallet. I’m in Australia and the difference from a few years ago to now is honestly insane. You walk into the shops for ‘a few things’ and somehow leave $80 poorer.

I’ve definitely cut back on random snacks/drinks and impulse buys more than anything. Prices are getting so ridiculous that people are starting to shop based on value instead of what they actually want.

This is very accurate. I feel like I can't even leave the house without spending at least $50 anymore.

Exactly. That’s what makes it worse, it’s not one massive purchase hurting people, it’s death by 100 small transactions. Fuel, a drink, quick takeaway, random essentials… suddenly half the day’s pay is gone without even buying anything exciting.

Everything is extremely expensive, I try to buy things that are on sale from now on. Gas prices going up will force everyone to increase prices on products. And worst part is that even if gas price goes back to normal, I don’t think food prices will drop.

We got appetizers at restaurants costing $20+ 😭

I bought gas yesterday and the price was insane. it's been up for a while now without a price reduction in sight.
