Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Voidlight - Jun 5, 2026 seeing this person recently be scammed by a user who was banned a month prior https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6320702 made me think to suggest that any posts on the marketplace containing contact info from a banned user should be removed or at least have their contact info censored automatically from the post to avoid people getting scammed. I'm aware that anything not done through the contract system is not hackforums staffs problem but I could see this helping new members who may not fully understand how the forum works yet. I know staff can manually do this and they do, but having it be automatic the moment they are banned could help catch threads that fall through the cracks. RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Sam - Jun 5, 2026 I agree, protecting newer users from reaching out to banned scammers in old marketplace threads is a solid idea. That said, I don’t think full automation is necessary. The staff already do a pretty good job manually removing or censoring contact details when someone gets banned. We also have the contract system and vouches for a reason. My only real concern is that automation could cause false positives and end up being unfair, like censoring posts from members who got temporarily banned or had their ban appealed. Most experienced members already know to avoid direct contacts in old threads anyway. RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Pr0m3th3us - Jun 5, 2026 Agreed, ill take it a step further and say deleted everything they have ever posted. Whats the point of keeping anything around? RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - CL1B - Jun 5, 2026 I agree RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Pr0m3th3us - Jun 5, 2026 The Ebooks also need to go.....look at this crap https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6320751 Delete everything they have posted. To bad. Sucks. That's life. #Dealwithit. RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Charlie Sheen - Jun 5, 2026 Usually when a member gets banned I go through their threads and remove their off-site communication. This was a different situation where he was banned while we investigated his account. There's a few reasons why we don't delete old threads. If ever you find a thread with off-site communication and the OP was banned or closed you can always message myself or staff and we will make the necessary edits. RE: Delete threads from banned users in the marketplace - Omniscient - Jun 6, 2026 It's imho important to leave the data. We often link ban evading scammers through their past post activity. Maybe we don't have an IP match or other profile match material, but then they go and create extremely similar threads. They might even reuse contact points. Technically as a policy we don't remove content unless it violates a type of policy requiring removal. Like linking to competing site or maybe something being sold that's disallowed. For Voidlight thread example that account should have been "closed" so it was more clear on their profile. As a change. For both BANNED and CLOSED members their postbit will now replace both the Popularity and Credibility with "DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER".
