Server Move (Again) - Omniscient - Aug 2, 2026 Today, I have rented us a new HF server for a full upgrade. I found a good datacenter with a setup that meets all our needs at a reasonable price. I had already begun building a server months ago but the rug was pulled from under me and the account closed without notice. I have to start from scratch but first step was finding a server and datacenter. The next step was paying for it. I'll use this thread to update the progress I have. This is excellent news though and a step in the right direction to get us back onto the path of success and into the future. Thank you. RE: Server Move (Again) - 01001 - Aug 2, 2026 Thank you for the update. Could you please clarify if this means we will be transitioning to a more advanced server with improved speed and security? Additionally, I am curious if there will be any new and exciting developments coming to HF. RE: Server Move (Again) - Raijin - Aug 2, 2026 That's nice. Keep up the good work. RE: Server Move (Again) - SIM-2502833 - Aug 2, 2026 Not that its any of my business, but what's the largest consumption? Simply storage/bandwidth? I wasn't aware a website like HF (albeit with thousands of users) required such abundant hardware. I've heard of people in similar situations simply renting a slot in a rack at a local datacenter and building the server themselves, so you could consider that if this doesn't work out. RE: Server Move (Again) - NLSwiper - Aug 2, 2026 Good looks hope for an easy transition. To be honest in a new setup it's just as much potential for less security as there is for more. All pages on HF should load very quickly. If not, LMK which ones don't. It is going to be improved faster hardware but when you're taking milliseconds in difference it's not noticeable. Load on current server, as old as it is, less than 2 nearly all the time. I also got an email saying provision will take 2 days. :( RE: Server Move (Again) - 7 - Aug 2, 2026 Exciting times. HF isnt slow only the database backups I would say cause a daily issue. RE: Server Move (Again) - Jamika - Aug 3, 2026 I hope they're good enough that you won't have to start over from scratch. Best of luck to you, my friend. RE: Server Move (Again) - RangoWorld - Aug 3, 2026 Will we see a newer / fresher UI for the website? RE: Server Move (Again) - Ash Ketchum - Aug 3, 2026 I am excited to see what is next in store for HF. But id also like the gif to say something on your profile. I could need the money since youre moving maybe you need someone take a deep try (Aug 2, 2026 02:33 PM)Omniscient Wrote: Today, I have rented us a new HF server for a full upgrade. Something Omniscient could look at as during backups we experience a short outage due to the backup taking up all the DB pool connections. I assume new server will be faster. I was provisioned server last night, woke up and it won't let me shell into the server. So I'm attempting an OS reinstall right now. Can't wait to get into this beast and begin the work. RE: Server Move (Again) - loadman - Aug 4, 2026 ah what specs RE: Server Move (Again) - Omniscient - Aug 4, 2026 (Aug 4, 2026 01:29 PM)loadman Wrote: ah what specs I don't publish server specs in detail. It's not a new server but it's newer than what we have. It will save me money and allow me to upgrade our backend. |
