Which is the news which had most impact on you these days? [warn]

RE: most impact - Calculon - Aug 11, 2026

News how the surveillance society is creeping closer every day. What is really scary is how young people today see surveillance as the norm and totally acceptable. So every generation is born into systems that grow more and more oppressive. Since they don't know any other reality, they will perceive totalitarianism as normal. And it's not a bad dream, it happens right now.

I have added capital letters to your title and your post. Please do not make thread titles and posts in all lower case because it looks terrible and violates the Help Docs. Thank you.

It's not creeping closer. There are cameras absolutely everywhere. I don't worry about all the chat bots and the internet keeping all my data perhaps the way I should. I figure they mostly just track me to try and sell me stuff and all I have to do is not buy it I suppose. But perhaps I should be taking it more seroiously.

I think he meant that the creeping is a constant slide of privacy violations.

The cashless society effectively strangles privacy. For example, in my country, even many adults now think cash is something suspicious. It is easy to draw the same conclusion for other areas, like cameras, Internet surveillance, and face scanning. Kids growing up with a camera in the toilet seat will think it is ok because they don't know anything else. lol. 😁
