OpenAI has officially announced it will end Cursor's access to its models after the platform's acquisition by SpaceX.
The company informed SpaceX that the contract allowing Cursor to use OpenAI’s technology will be terminated, citing a lack of confidence that SpaceX would comply with existing terms. The disconnection is scheduled for November 12, 2026, which is 76 days from the notice.
OpenAI stated that the developers relying on Cursor’s integration will be most affected and has committed to supporting them throughout the transition period.
Cursor’s leadership has responded to OpenAI’s announcement that it will block Cursor users from accessing OpenAI models within the next three months.
According to Cursor, OpenAI models account for approximately five percent of Cursor’s user traffic. Cursor representatives stated that they are currently in discussions with OpenAI to address the situation.
The company further noted that Cursor was among the early adopters of OpenAI’s technologies and had relied on OpenAI’s platform as neutral infrastructure for its business. Cursor claims that this decision by OpenAI challenges that expectation of neutrality.

Takes me back to my childhood when a kid named Tommy used to stand in the middle of the sandbox with a plastic shovel in one hand and a toy car in the other and scream "THIS IS MY SANDBOX!" 😄

It’s starting to look less like a business decision and more like a personal rivalry. At this level, you’d expect both sides to act with a little more professionalism.
