Hacker returns 3400 BTC - Mewtwo - Sep 7, 2026 What you guys think? 15% for approximately 600 BTC as a reward for themselves. Is this truly what a whitehat hacker should be? I believe the best bet in this situation is to return every single cent. Let the company decide what’s the best for the reward. There’s still strings attached here and a lot of legal exposure. 15% might be great to have, but is it worth watching over your shoulders? RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - Omniscient - Sep 7, 2026 I think their claim of being Whitehat was a lie. You don't keep $50m as a reward if you are imho. I do agree to some extent, but if they decided to return it, their best chance of being rewarded would probably be somewhere around $5k. It's just how bug bounties work nowadays, companies are paying millions for AI and they never "have" budget for bounties. RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - CyberXero - Sep 7, 2026 nothing new, black hats portraying themselves as white hat RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - Respect - Sep 7, 2026 (Sep 7, 2026 12:18 PM)Omniscient Wrote: I think their claim of being Whitehat was a lie. You don't keep $50m as a reward if you are imho. 10-15% white hat rewards aren't uncommon in crypto, especially if the hack is done prior to disclosure. White hat hackers regularly get the shit end of the stick if they disclose, crypto companies with hundreds of millions in treasury only offer low 6 fig bounties, but if you pull it off, then the companies offer 10-20% of the loot as a bounty to return the rest. Granted this is quite a large heist RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - bebonzy09 - Sep 7, 2026 I mean to be fair they could've kept it all and the company would be left with nothing. I don't see anything wrong with this, company got majority of their BTC back, they "lost" only $50m for the bounty, which is not much when you compare it to the whole $600m they could've lost. EDIT: Thought it was $600m, read it again and it was $320m they lost. In that case 10% would've been sufficient, $50m is a bit too much if its that amount. RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - NoodleBot™ - Sep 7, 2026 Does this mean they would be allowed to cash out via exchange with no repercussions? I guess it’s too early to tell. RE: Hacker returns 3400 BTC - Jahad - Sep 7, 2026 That type of money will tempt you, respect to them for returning the majority of the funds. |
