Hello,

It is I, Terry.

Would you be interested in a Movie Night system setup? I'm thinking of spinning up a budget AWS instance for Syncplay which would handle Stop/Start/Pause etc of movies for you to watch.

Sourcing said videos would be on you™️ - but we would be able to shit talk in Convo while watching shared movies. Of course timezones work against us, but given the right people and the right effort I could also look at streaming said videos to users forever and just randomly picking.

The idea isn't mine, just gathering input

I found something called Teleparty. https://www.teleparty.com/
It works for streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

I've wanted to do something like this for sports or a movie night. jcole used to host UFC night in Discord. Ideally I'd like to set something up where it's synced with convo.

I was a big fan of the idea when it was first brought up in convo, would love to see this work out! Although the activity may vary alot because of timezones, we will see with testing :D

Awesome idea, would be really great!
I am curious, if a website was built, would the hackforums API be able to be implemented
either to sign-up to a PM subscription or a push notification from NTFY type of thing to let
people know when to pull out the popcorn, also you could add a donation feature where
instead of asking someone to buy you a coffee they can buy a bump for the official HF thread showing their support,
implement a built in convo where you can see whats said but cant type unless you unlock it with bytes?
like CSGO where you can vote for the next map, maybe a vote for the next movie 1 byte per, but random is free?
could do soo much. would be awesome if there was an official MOVIE/SERIES/SPORTS streaming award!

There will be no money given to me for this - if anything it will be Bytes to support the usage on HF. I would for sure impl the HF API to it the best way I could, the issue becomes not everyone has all streaming services, so some level of piracy might be on the cards, which can't be a bad thing given Charlie's response about UFC being shared which is against their T&C. So long as it's offsite, but then that breaks the HF rules around piracy which means Omni might not want me using the API, and many bridges to sort before then.

That is great, and a good idea, only issue, I don't have Hulu, and outside of America it is kinda moot. So I return to needing a way to host the video files online somewhere with preloaded version so something like Popcorn time, and then KYC... Piracy, DMCA and so on become a threat. Which is a dampner.

Don't want to do Discord for many reasons, notably, fuck Discord, reason why forums died, so no thanks.


The biggest issue is sorting out how to stream movies not everyone owns, through an okay CDN without costing an arm and a leg, maybe Wasabi or Backblaze and just deal with lag with it hosted in US since most I would assume are on that continent, and then just cheap out on plan size, and rotate movies as needed. This isn't an overnight thing as most of my day life is programming, and the rest is RE.

So I am not sure where I'd slot this in, then who is guard for hosting a domain so script kiddies don't work out my name isn't actually Terry A. Davis (sorry!)... So yeah, there are a few hurdles, but nothing impossible.

Just checkout hydraHD it's great! And to be honest you could run giveaways with the byte redirecting people to the official movie thread to ql and comment, hot topic right there, then sticky it, someone had TB's of Plex,

Tbh feels like it's gonna become a movie streaming site

Something like that might be the go.
I'll have a look, just need sync play so people feel more live and a user agent script to sync convo might be faster

I'm out this week entirely so will look into it next weekend.

Will need a c2 for byte sync etc

Charlie Sheen where does hf stand with the API tapping along side streaming sites if I wanted convo integration?
