Ultra Begginer MS-DOS Tutorial - Black Kat - Apr 5, 2009 Ok, heres the deal. You want to learn Batch / MS-DOS. I can show you, in this tutorial how to code MS-DOS. It wont take long, probably around 30 minutes. Step 1) So, when you are creating a .bat/Batch file normally you would right click an area of your desktop (or the area you want to create the file) and go to 'New -> Text Document'. Now, click 'Save As...' and configure it so it is the same as show in the picture, Save as Type: All Files and choose a name. When choosing the name, it is important to put .bat on the end. If you have done everything right, you should now have a .bat file in the same area your created the Text Document. As said in the note, you can now delete the Text Document. Most people change the file extension every time to .txt (back and forth) so they can edit their .bat file, but it is a lot faster just to right click and select 'Edit'. Note: You may now delete the Text Document, it isn't needed. Note: The .bat file will be created in the same area as the Text Document. Picture: Step 2) Now you have your .bat file. Right click on it and select the 'Edit' option. This will bring up a window that is the same as the Text Document in the start that you made. From here you can start to make your .bat file. Picture: Step 3) Lets learn some basic MS-DOS. First of all, you will need to put the following at the top: Code @ECHO OFFNote: Notice how I put my '@ECHO OFF' in capitals. This is NOT necessary, it will work if in lower case as well. I just wanted to make it clear to everyone! Picture: Step 4) So now, you want to start saying things in your bat file. The command used to display a message in MS-DOS is 'echo'. For instance, if I wanted to tell you that the program you where about to launch spammed Omni with 'GIEF ADMIN' requests, then you would put something like this: Code @ECHO OFFPicture: Step 5) Ok, so the above code may seem a little confusing to the average beginner. Lets break it down and see how it worked. As you can see in the picture above for Step 4), all the code 'echo' did was display a message when launched. You may have noticed some 'echo.' in between the normal 'echo'. Don't be confused, all this means is the echo is going to display anything, effectively, its just a space. So, now we know we can use 'echo' to display a message and 'echo.' to create a space. Also, as you can see there is 'pause' at the end. All this does is tell the .bat file to make a pause. Remember, a 'pause' is very important. Try and launch the previous code without the 'pause' on the end and see what happens. It will just launch and close. This is because it hasent been told do stop. It just showed the 'echo' that we put in for a split second and quit. Note: You may notice that 'pause' creates a 'Press any key to continue . . .' when launched. To stop it from displaying anything just put 'pause > nul' and to have it show your own message just put something like this 'pause > your text here'. This is awesome for beginners to learn, especially with the pics. Nice... - Vebedot - Apr 5, 2009 It´s not necessary to save it as "All Files". It works just as good as anything else, just with .bat at the end. - Black Kat - Apr 6, 2009 (Apr 5, 2009 11:42 PM)Vebedot Wrote: It´s not necessary to save it as "All Files". I think your wrong, on Windows 7 it you have to select 'All Files' and I think the same with Vista. - Vebedot - Apr 6, 2009 Nope, it´s not like that on Vista. And, since i don´t have Windows 7, i guess you´re right on that part. :) |
