Rate My Build - $1500-600. - Іntel - Oct 24, 2010 Hey guys, I'm thinking of a $1500-1600 build. This is what I have so far, let me know what you think. CPU Cooler -Corsair Hydro Series H50 $119.00 CPU -Intel Core i5 760 $226 GPU -EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB External Exhaust $249 ODD -Lite-On IHAS524 24x DVDRW Super AllWrite $29 HDD -Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HD103SJ $69 RAM -G.Skill Ripjaws F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM (2x2GB) DDR3 $96.80 PSU -Corsair TX-750 $148 Case -CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case $145 Mobo -ASUS P7P55D-E PRO Motherboard $202 Monitor -Acer G245HBMID 24in Widescreen LCD Monitor $204 Mouse/Keyboard -Logitech Wireless Desktop MK250 $32 Audio -Creative Inspire T6160 5.1 Speaker System $66 Wireless -ASUS PCI-G31 54Mbps 802.11b/g Wireless PCI Adapter $19 Total: $1604.80 I plan on o/cing, and also getting another GTX460 in the long-run, as my Mobo supports SLi. Prices are in AUD. The Mouse/Keyboard isn't for gaming, I already have gaming equipment, I'm using the wireless desktop for efficiency in terms of space. Thanks. * - Amor - Oct 24, 2010 The only thing I can tell you to do is go with the Scythe Ninja3 instead: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23_845&products_id=15095 Don't get that POS "water cooling". If you're going to get water cooling build your own WC circuit instead. Finally that mobo is good and all but I would switch it up with a Gigabyte (this one is lie $40 cheaper): http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_897&products_id=12936 No reason other than I'm a fan of them but ASUS is just as good so if you like that ASUS then keep it. * - Іntel - Oct 24, 2010 Thanks so much for the help - the Ninja3 looks great. That mobo doesn't support SLi, so I'm really not that interested - I want 2 GTX460's in the longrun. * - Amor - Oct 24, 2010 Right.... forgot about the SLI thing. I'm just quick to jump to Gigabyte because I absolutely love the features they have at the price they offer them at (ie. that mobo I posted is probably just as good as the ASUS and is cheaper except the only problem for you is it doesn't offer SLI). As for the WC thing, it's good that someone finally has listened to me. Honestly if you get one of those "prebuilt" WC things they're usually crap and high quality air coolers will offer just as good results. The only time when WC actually is good is when you build your own circuit (ie. buying a bunch of Swiftech parts and piecing it together yourself). Another cooler that might be worth looking into is the Noctua D14 which I will tell you is better than the Ninja3 but the price you pay for one (with only a slight cooling gain) is what puts me off since I personally can't justify paying that much more for one considering the little bit of extra cooling that it would give me. But who knows, maybe you're a rich bitch and can afford that. * - Doomsapian - Oct 24, 2010 (Oct 24, 2010 05:19 AM)Amor Wrote: Right.... forgot about the SLI thing. I'm the one thats always having the tamper tantrums about it. The High end air coolers such as the ninja 3 out perform the H50. The D14 is also gigantic and in some cases covers ram slots. Theres also the Noctua U12P with 2 fans thats also slightly better then the ninja. Also do you really need 2 gtx460's? Just stick to a single card. Duel cards always cause problems and I have seen in a lot of forums that people actually have to disable the second card to get some games to work which is nuts. You could probably get an Antec psu for cheaper, I just tend to find corsair are the most expensive. Also since your overclocking your going to need some overclocking ram, well you don't need to but its highly recommended, 1600mhz stuff is what most people get but it depends on how much your overclocking. If your going for a 4ghz overclock, you may want to get some higher stuff or you could just change the multiplier like I did. * - Amor - Oct 24, 2010 Ahhh fine.. actually took my suggestion without insisting that "water cooling" was better. I know you always have temper tantrums about the whole H50/H70 vs air cooler thing but I just suggest high end air coolers and if the OP doesn't listen to it then they can go see how much better their "water cooling" is. I don't usually care unless it's that time of the month. * - Іntel - Oct 24, 2010 I think I'm going to scrap that 'hydro cooling', I've read reviews that it also keeps some hot air in the case. As for fan size, it's not a huge issue, as my case is really big and roomy. * - Amor - Oct 24, 2010 Just an aside but; Intel.... are you Asian? I like that user title you got there. Number one on the top 100! I'm getting slizzered right now lol (not really.... I'm just just having a little bit of warm sake cause I got things to do tomorrow). Another thing I forgot to comment on was if you were going to get an SSD or not. I know you have a budget and all but would you consider playing around with the parts to make them slightly cheaper maybe and make room for an SSD? Even if you just get a 32GB one and use it as a primary master (boot drive) it's still a good idea and you'll love the access times. It looks like the Vertex2 60GB is on sale for $155 ATM: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_909&products_id=14670 The Onyx is really really slow, like half the speed of the Vertex2 so don't get the Onyx (even though it may seem like a deal). * - Іntel - Oct 24, 2010 I'm not Asian, although I have Indian heritage. Lot's of people are telling me to buy a SSD, but I don't think I need one, I'm not too fussed on spending $80+ more on my PC just to make it start-up like 3 seconds faster, and applications open faster by un-noticable speeds. Thanks for searching for me, though. Also, I'm going to buy this in around December, as I've heard the prices are going down for the GTX460 to as low as $200, so that will save me $100 when I get 3 for SLi. Prices for my build aren't final, a few parts are cheaper at PCDIY, so I'm guessing it will end up at a max of $50 cheaper. * - Dexdrex - Oct 24, 2010 (Oct 24, 2010 11:03 PM)Intel™ Wrote: I'm not Asian, although I have Indian heritage. un-noticable speed? hell no. you definitely feel/notice the boost when you use a SSD. * - Іntel - Oct 24, 2010 Okay, since everyone's told me to get it, I guess I can use the money saved from that 'hydro cooling' now that I'm getting the other fan to buy a SSD. And idea how much Windows 7 Ultimate x64 takes up? I have it at the moment, its like 8-9GB, and it said to keep 15GB, but I want to make sure that updates and everything won't use up all the space on the SSD. I have one other query - with the GPU -EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB External Exhaust. I'm getting mixed opinions about this; it costs $10 more that the normal EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB without the External Exhaust. Some people have told me the exhaust is great for overclocking and keeps the system cooler, and other people have told me it just spreads more warm air around the system, so I need your opinions on this, just to be safe. Edit: A mate just told me the fan you suggested won't get my CPU up much when overclocking, and if I get that I might as well get this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23_845&products_id=12931 He said the hydro cooling will get my i5 760 to over 4GHz, and I could possibly hit 4GHz with the link above. If that's the case, I'll go with the hydro cooling. I'll probably still buy a SSD. * - Doomsapian - Oct 25, 2010 Yeah I was about to say unnoticeable speeds my fucking ass. Before I had a SSD photoshop took a while to open, now its instant. I constantly click it by accidently but don't have to worry about stuffing around trying to exit it while it loads because its instantly loaded. Thats the air cooler I have and I'm sitting at 4ghz, though I will have to put it back to normal clocks for summer. It gets to dam hot. Also your mate is an idiot. The ninja 3 is better then the H50 no doubt about it and will get to 4ghz. To get over 4ghz requires mass amounts of voltage and that generates a lot of heat which none of the coolers mentioned would combat. Only a full custom loop would do. A tip with your SSD to keep space management, move your user folder to another hard drive. There are tutorials for it and it saves tonnes of space because it moves all your music and video folders, even your desktop. * - Іntel - Oct 25, 2010 Thanks mate. Is the Ninja3 also better than the Noctua NH-U12P SE2, which I posted earlier? I'm still looking for opinions on whether or not to get the external exhaust version of the GTX 460. Thanks. Edit: What about this cooler? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23_845&products_id=13647 Xigmatek HDT-S1283W Dark Knight R3 Just read some great reviews of it. * - Doomsapian - Oct 25, 2010 No to that cooler, yes the noctua is better. * - Shannon R. - Oct 25, 2010 I personally really like the i5 760 alot. |
