[TUT] Speeding up Firefox [/TUT] - .Astro - Dec 16, 2010

This is just a compilation of the few guides I found n here about speeding up Firefox. Hope you enjoy, I take no credit for figuring out the methods, I only posted them in a AIO thread.

Method One -
Type in about:config in the address box and press enter. You will be confronted with a screen asking if your really want to do this. Enter it, and you will a menu with options having to do with Firefox. Search these up one at a time and set the boolean or integer to what it says.
Quote:browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs – true
network.http.max-connections – 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server – 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy – 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server – 4
network.http.pipelining – true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests – 100
network.http.proxy.pipelining – true
network.http.request.timeout – 300

Method Two -
Go to the about:config screen again, and this time, don't search anything. Just right-click anywhere and go to New > String.
name the string "nglayout.initial.paint" without the quotations and set the value to 0.
Then, right-click and go to New > String.
Name it "content.notify.delay" without the quotations and set the value to 0 as well.

Method Three -
Go to about:config, and search up the following and set the following as
Quote:network.http.pipelining to “true”
network.http.proxy.pipelining to “true”
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 10.
browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs – true
network.http.max-connections – 48
network.http.max-connections-per-server – 16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy – 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server – 4

Method Four -
1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimize”. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.

I hoped you enjoyed this tutorial, and hope it helped you. Please rep/thank me if you used this and are pleased with your results.

This does work for speeding up FF.

I haven't checked this post very throughly but there is a way (which is displayed here I think) to make FF make use of RAM or something to do specific tasks instead of using another part of the system speeding it up overally.

Perhaps someone can correct me on this issue?

Forget HJT, it is overrated in this community.

Try running Hitmanpro(.nl) which might find errors within the DNS.

Running numerous anti malware (Hitmanpro.nl and malwarebytes.org) scan can help identify malware which are trying to block access to some sites. Also check the blocked list within your web browser.

These were already on HackForums, I just took the working ones that were proved to be working and put them together so no one will have to sort through a bunch of random methods and only getting like 1 that works.

Ah I have seen this before. Now I just use Google Chrome and find it significantly better.

But the thing with Google chrome is that every new tab is a new process.
