Stop Calling Servers, Clients and Clients, Servers! - xSilent - Jan 10, 2011 People, this is how it works. Spoiler (Click to View) http://www.techsoup.org/learningcenter/networks/page4773.cfm http://infomotions.com/musings/waves/clientservercomputing.html http://beej.us/guide/bgnet/output/html/multipage/clientserver.html http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-client-server-architecture.htm You can call the server "Client-Server", but not the f**king client! I'm not flaming the new people, you guys were just mislead I was when I first started. And since most of you are stubborn, maybe seven things will cause some information to leak in. Clients connect to the Server. * - DeanOverloaded - Jan 10, 2011 I agree with you. This is very irritating. * - Pulser - Jan 10, 2011 People get it confused because of the whole host booting thing. Sam, Split, etc called their bot a server. Confusing everyone. * - xSilent - Jan 10, 2011 (Jan 10, 2011 08:49 AM)Mr. Predictable Wrote: People get it confused because of the whole host booting thing. Oh wait I'm on hackforums. Obviously if you're hosting something what's on your end will be called a server, what's on the client's end is called the client. * - Vysse - Jan 10, 2011 So a victim of a rat does not have a server on their pc they have a client... if so I have been confused for years... * - Endax - Jan 10, 2011 I could kind of understand the logic on the new reverse connection RAT's where the 'server' on the attackers computer is listening for connections. But what about on the old fashioned ones where you put in an IP address and connect? On them the malware listens for connections and the attacker sends it, surely meaning he is the client. * - H3x0S - Jan 10, 2011 (Jan 10, 2011 11:05 AM)Endax Wrote: I could kind of understand the logic on the new reverse connection RAT's where the 'server' on the attackers computer is listening for connections. That is called trojan. It's actually the non reverse-connection RAT. Program that sends commands is server while your victim is client. * - GoldStar - Jan 10, 2011 totally agree. but lets not forget the original sens of the words client & server: in a restaurant for exemple, the client ask for food, the server gets him food. client requests, server answers. so even with a reverse connexion for exemple, even if you are the server listening for clients, they can technically still can be called servers, cuz they are surving you with infomations you'r asking, and executing cammands you'r sending. |
