I've always used FRAPS to record basically everything. I'd recommend against it if you have poor CPU horsepower and/or low storage sizes.

OBS is also a good screen recorder.

If you own an Nvidia or AMD relatively mid-high end GPU, you can utilize their hardware H.264 encoder to record Direct X 11 games with barely any reduced frame rates.

I used to use it then i switched to OBS, it gives exactly same quality (if not, better) and almost no frame rate drop ingame, and much smaller file sizes.

1. You can set the frame rate for your output in FRAPS.

2. It does not give the exact same quality or better. FRAPS provides the best video quality available because it is recorded in an UNCOMPRESSED format, which is why it gives large file sizes. Any compression done by OBS to give smaller files effectively decreases the bitrate of the video, which is translatable to quality,

3. Frame drops can occur on all programs.

For me, and everyone who Ive asked, who has used both fraps and OBS, has stated that frame drops occur significantly more on fraps. I never said it doesn't occur on OBS at all, ofcourse it can occur on all programs, but I don't think ive ever had regular frame drops on OBS anywhere near as bad as OBS.

If you have anb NVidia graphics card, you should use Shadow play. Works perfect for me.

Give OBS a shot too, I have used it quite extensively, and it was good.
