RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - webdev77 - Jul 2, 2020 You can get net+ and sec+ in less than two months. Employers know this. Is a degree still needed in today's economy? Mostly still yes, but there is a wider acceptance of alternative means of experience and self study. It's definitely a lot easier to get a job now with less formal schooling compared to ten or twenty years ago. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - OBAMASELF - Jul 2, 2020 I am doing a CS degree rn but personally I prefer certs when it comes to IT industry. The more certifications you have, the more your resume gonna looook juicy and have higher chance of getting hired. This is only for IT industry but for other industry like accounting and commerce and shit, its better to have a degree than some random certs. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - Yanix - Jul 2, 2020 I guess a bachelors degree weigh much better than those certificates...it is the first thing to look for an applicants then follows by certifications. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - Method - Jul 2, 2020 i feel like this would depend on the exact job title you're looking to get wouldn't it? but having a certificate over here is good enough these days. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - Rally the Bulls - Jul 2, 2020 The ability to perform (specifically on the spot, at the interview) far outweighs either. As Xero has already stated, the journey doesn't matter nearly as much as the results. That said, if it comes down to two equally skilled individuals and the only thing that differs is degree vs certs, the guy with the degree will likely receive the position. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - L0RE - Jul 3, 2020 I think a degree opens more sores to a person and gives them better opportunities. Well idk about other fields but in Law, you NEED a degree. If not, at most you’ll be a paralegal RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - SIM-74411 - Jul 3, 2020 I think it depends on what you want to achieve in your life. In my country, Bachelors Degree >>>> Certifications RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - CyberAlex - Jul 3, 2020 (Jul 3, 2020 12:19 AM)L0RE Wrote: I think a degree opens more sores to a person and gives them better opportunities. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - Baraka - Jul 3, 2020 Always debated the same thing, i got certs but thinking of going back for a degree. Not as easy as it seems with certs. Plus experience is the real winner. RE: Bachelors Degree VS Certifications - SREE - Jul 3, 2020 Bachelors degree is the basic qualification for most of the jobs while technical certifications serve as an additional qualification to earn you the job. Certs are a supplement to your resume, not your selling point. I recommend obtaining certs when you already have a job, to spice up your resume as usually your employer (if the company is any good) is going to pay for that. Chart goes like this: experience > degrees > certifications. Keep in mind that with only having experience, finding a job won't be also easy as you'll have to obtain proper opportunity to prove yourself, despite your previous projects (unless they are mind blowing). Your mileage may vary, I've seen/heard success and fail stories with only having experience to offer. Source: software engineer with degrees and experience. |
