Depends on the line of work, who's hiring you and how much actual in the field experience you have.
I've got certifications, never has the hiring manager said anything negative about them quite the opposite. Also depends on the certifications, mine was around construction I had to work to earn it not just study and that's what truly matters to your employer. So I'm assuming when you go for a certification or a degree, it's cool and all if you've studied but your chances for employment increase if you can show your employer the work you have done or in the field experience. Only time I'd say you'd be better off with a certain degree or certification is if it's required.

Most certifications are a joke. Even the CBT Nuggets guy starts off his CCNA series with "Will this cert get you a job? Pfft no. But it'll put you in the right direction"
Whenever I see A+ I just think, so you're basically as certified as any modern 13 year old? Sec+ is a minimum requirement for a lot of jobs. Degree or not you'll need it. Besides. Most of these entry level certs are a part of your college. yes

Also, want to change usernames? Been reading some Marxist commentators talk about blm and they make some sense haha
A degree will always outweigh a certification.
However, overall work experience and what you've done with your degree/certificate outside of the scope of the class is what matters. Like personal projects and adding to your portfolio. Saying that you worked on Java, Python, or whatever scripting language just inside your classroom doesn't mean much.

You'll want to get at least an associate's degree and some certs. Degrees are a requirement because companies want workers who have degrees. I know so many people with degrees with things unrelated to the field they are working in (i.e. English and Literature) who have it because companies want it.
Degree> Other certifications as long as you know what youre doing. Without know how, the degree is not worth much.
I'm pretty surprised that it seems degrees are more importants than certs for lot of members
I think it depends to be honest, I know in my company we rather prefer to hire people who have some years of experience and certs, rather than fresh graduated people, not the same thing. I know that guy who payed for those certs is involved into what he is doing, besides I know he WANTS to learn more, the kid from school, meh, don't know, I would rather trust the geeky guy

I wasn't formally educated in my field. I taught myself how to code and pretty much everything I know about computers and technology. It's different for everybody.
For some, they trade time and money for a degree as as more standard proof of work ethic/dedication. For others, they trade time and money for certifications as an alternate proof of work ethic/dedication. For even others still, they trade time and money for self-education as a an alternate proof of work ethic/dedication. In the end you want somebody who can produce. Somebody who has some value and who can accomplish things. It doesn't matter how they got there, but if they have the talent desired, the journey there is just details. ![]() (Jul 2, 2020 05:27 AM)unknown321 Wrote: so whats your guys opinions on getting a bachelors degree vs Certs like a+ and network + I think it depends on the economic situation in your country/location. In my country, Certs is better than bachelors degree. Bachelors degree is most times kept in the wardrobe, i haven't used mine since i got it over 10yrs. But i use my Certs....like my MSVP in dot net programming.... |
