I don't care if its their job or not

Exactly, if it works for us, we might as well use it

Both options are fine with me. I think self-checkout machines are great, though. It gives you your exact change and receipt every time, and it's so convenient.

Automation is inevitable. I use self checkout when ever I can.

I got so sick of cashiers putting like two things in a bag, criticizing my food purchases, and just saying dumb Clay Davis while being super slow.

Self-checkout, I am in and out, no stupid comments, fewest bags possible. Easy, and done.

What stores have you gone to where they made underhanded comments about what you're buying?

I use it but not often. The ones here work when they want to.

I believe in supporting all the cashiers and most of the time always go to the registers instead.

I've noticed lately them trying to eliminate cashier jobs and only have one or two cashiers, and about 20 self checkouts.

Only when the normal registers are too crowded to wait for with my few items.
I prefer to talk to a cashier, so they feel like human beings and have a little chit-chat instead of "here.. hands money bye".
We have several stores with 20+ self checkouts, some store with only 2 self check-outs and others don't have that.
All in the same range of 10 miles.

I feel like we should interact with other human beings from time to time I do enjoy the occasional self checkout without interacting with anybody on a bad day. Usually I prefer the little chit-chat with the cashiers that I know for years.

My personally opinion. Its all about efficiency of cost.
Running a company is not as easy as it looks like, because there are tax cost that must be payed monthly.
I think, use few amount of cashier staff is not a big deal as long as the customer is satisfied with the service.

Literally every one I've been to. The big chains, the small ones. I don't get it.

I always have used self checkouts since they became available. I don't care that i'm doing free work it's worth it not to talk to anyone.
