Honestly, I did some very unethical and illegal things before many, many years ago out of pure curiosity. Never about monetization or buying some expensive whatnot. But I immediately stopped once I saw I had gone too far.

These people legitimately live in a massive delusion, one where they think they're superior to others, thus untraceable/undetectable. No pity though, only some delight when the law catches up to them.

I mean, I totally get the stances people are trying to make. I did the whole hacker thing from 2009 to 2014, up until my arrest for hacking and malware distribution, and I totally remember trying to justify my actions from time to time. I was infatuated with the idea of hacking, security, etc, it's what I did pretty much all day every day for 5 years. However, ultimately it's just a maturity thing. If I didn't get arrested I probably would have grown out of it around the same time anyways. I was slowly becoming more aware of the consequences of my actions (for others and myself). I started growing up and realizing that what I was doing was wrong, and I needed to stop.

I suspect it will be the same for a lot of people here. They'll hit their early to mid 20's and kind of have an "awakening" moment where they realize that they're doing scummy shit and they need to change the direction that they're heading in. They'll look back at how they tried to rationalize their actions and they'll be embarrassed by their frame of mind. Kind of just like any time in our lives, we're always able to look back at what we were doing 5-10 years ago and we just cringe at how dumb/immature/whatever we can be. It'll be the same case for most people here.

Oh, that's right! I had completely spaced on your dealings with the law all that time ago. But that's more than likely the same route I was headed had I not stopped where I was. The computer where I kept everything up and decided to perform the Seppuku ritual, so I took it as an even clearer sign. But you're absolutely right about how views, desires and thoughts change abruptly around that age. Mine certainly did. Hell, it still catches me off guard when comparing my mentality now to way back then. Plus, you know, I caught myself saying "Oh, for cute" in public. That was a clear indicator.

Lmao yeah man, I really do not like to think about myself 10 years ago. I can't handle all the cringe.

LOL. Completely understand. I'm a bit jealous your cringe-worthy memories only go to 10 years. There's barely any photos of me from when I was a minor for a reason, there was no escape in sight.

I've just pushed everything past that out of mind.
I remember middle school being bad, but couldn't give you specifics anymore :P

Probably for the best when considering where we are at for the moment. To the future, where neither of us are going back to jail!

You're rationalizing the wrong that you do by who you do wrong to and by how badly it affects them. This doesn't make you a good person, nor does this show any sign of a strong moral compass, it just shows that you know that you're doing wrong and in order for YOU to sleep soundly at night, you try to do what you can to rationalize it. You're trying to state that you're taking the moral high ground by only stealing from those who can afford it, yet the moral high ground would be to not steal at all. I get the rationality that you're trying to make, and sure, it makes what you're doing less heinous, but it still doesn't make it right in any sense of the word.

You're still a bad person.

Well if you put it like that guess your right , however i was implyimg that if i ever were to get into a situation were i would do this i would use those guidelines wich are better or at least less bad than not making any difference at all. But your also right the moral high ground would be not to steal at all.

I thought people earned money these days. Unless you're talking about money as in bread in which case wouldn't taste very good at all

It's an old expression meaning that legal money is better than illegal gains.
