How could this have happened? I barely even use the thing but I got a notification my email was changed.

Hmm, probably a dictionary attack on your account, if your password was easy. If not, it could have been an infection.

Most likely was not a dictionary attack because the user would need to know more than the password to log in. I think you are infected.

Like Oak said, being infected seems more likely than a dictionary attack. As far as recovering the account is concerned, you should go to Skype support, but we also need to make sure that your infection is cleared. So to begin with, run through Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Eset Online Scanner. Post the logs of both in your next post.

99% sure your account was hacked through they Skype representatives. Its the easiest way. Try getting your account back 'here'.
