[Review] The Pet Girl of Sakurasou - Kina - Aug 8, 2013 ![]() Japanese Title - Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo Genre - Comedy, Drama, Romance, School Directed by - Ishizuka, Atsuko Episodes - 24 Episode Length - 23 min Rating - PG-13 - Teens 13 or older Airing Date - Oct 9, 2012 to Mar 26, 2013 Airing Status - Complete Synopsis The school romantic comedy revolves around a second-year high school student named Sorata Kanda who lives in Sakurasou, the dormitory for problem children at Sorata's school. One day, Mashiro Shiina—a cute girl who happens to be also a cosmopolitan, brilliant artist—moves into Sakurasou. Sorata thinks to himself that he should protect Mashiro from the weirdos at Sakurasou, but Mashiro has a surprising secret: she has no idea how to take care of herself. She gets lost if she goes out, and her room is a complete mess. Sorata's dorm mates designate him as the "master" of Mashiro, and thus, an ordinary boy and a brilliant girl must live like "a master and his pet." Characters Nanami "Nanamin, Ponytail" Aoyama - Nanami is Sorata's classmate. Although she is harsh to Sorata, she actually has a crush on him, and everyone aside from Sorata has noticed this. She escaped from her home to become a voice actress, and has to live on her own. Misaki Kamiigusa - Misaki is the resident of room 201. Misaki is a third-year-student of Suiko who later attends Suimei University of the Arts. She is very outgoing and optimistic. Sorata often refers to her as an "alien". She has very good grades and is very good at drawing, but the school decided to send her to Sakurasou Dormitory because she pays too much attention on drawing anime and manga. She is very good at making animation and can handle most work in making one without help from others. She has already sold an animation to a famous publishing company and made enough of a fortune for the rest of her life. Sorata "Kouhai-kun, Soranyan" Kanda - Sorata is the male protagonist of the story. He is a second-year student of Suiko, who lives in room 101 of Sakurasou Dormitory. He was kicked out of the standard school dorm after he chose not to throw away a stray cat he picked up. As many of the Sakurasou Dormitory residents have outstanding grades and art skills, he often feels plain and normal among them. He is chosen by Chihiro to take care of Mashiro's daily life, although he resists at first, but he ends up getting used to it. Jin Mitaka - Jin is the resident of room 103. Jin is a third-year student of Suiko. He is Misaki's childhood friend and a playboy. He has dated several girls, including Misaki's elder sister, but in the end he breaks up with all of them. Mashiro "Mashiron" Shiina (My Favorite Character) - Mashiro is the female protagonist of the story. She is a the resident of room 202. She is a world famous artist who transferred into Suiko as a second-year to learn how to draw manga. Although her artworks are widely admired by the world in spite of her young age, she knows nothing other than drawing, and has an extreme lack of common sense and living ability. Due to this, Sorata is forced to handle Mashiro's living chores, to the point that he even has to pick out underwear for her, or she will go out without them. My Opinion Well, I overall loved this show. I did however want to drop it from the beginning. Thats why my rating isnt a 9 or 10. I didnt want to drop it because it was bad but because it was kinda slow, not too slow but just a tad. Also, the problem of the anime was repetitive. For the main character, Sorata, and one of the other main characters, Nanamin, the problem they faced was the same throughout the entire anime. Didnt like that but it wasnt too big of a problem because it didnt get too old. There was a bit too many sexually provocative scenes for my taste but it didnt ruin the show for me either. Also, this show had the most touching ending Ive ever seen. I cried at this end more than I did when I watched Angel Beats, Clannad, and AnoHana. It was unreal. I cant really explain without spoiling anything but it was good. There is another reason I gave it an 8 as opposed to 9 or 10 and its about the ending but I dont feel I can say without spoiling someone. Sorry, you'll just have to watch it I guess : ) My Rating - 8/10 Watch this anime! It has something in it for everyone. * - Phizo - Aug 8, 2013 Nice review. It definitely does deserve an 8/10, it's an amazing anime. I was hooked within the first few episodes; its uniqueness and art is amazing. Too bad I was watching it whilst it was airing, I had to wait. ;~; Listening to the soundtrack you posted. I miss this. * - Phaxol - Aug 8, 2013 This is definitely one of my top favorite anime. I agree that it progressed really slowly though. * - Peytronz - Aug 8, 2013 Nice review i loved this anime (my name ;)) i would recommend it to anyone! :D * - Galaxias - Aug 8, 2013 This anime was one of the best animes I've watched. I need to rewatch it soon though D: * - XxXx - Aug 9, 2013 I really enjoyed Sakurasou, it literally had everything you could want in it. Them feels at episode 23. That had to be my favourite episode from the series. I would also give it a 8/10 maybe even a 9/10. * - Elweth - Aug 9, 2013 Nice review. I enjoy Sakurasou a lot too, an anime that has a different 'feel' as compared to the others I watch, one that's more laid back and relaxing. Slice of life I guess? I love Mashiro a lot, reminds me of Koneko, those kind of girls I like :3 Storyline is awesome, unexpected at times too. :D * - cp4tj - Nov 22, 2013 you forgot 赤坂龍之介(akasaka-kun) :) well, he's not that important but I like his role anyways, nice review! * - Syndicate - Nov 22, 2013 Wow man, this is a great review. Now I shall conquer the world. Didn't read the review since I want to see the anime for myself. * - Kina - Nov 22, 2013 All good man. I take serious precautions to not spoil anything but anything could fuck it for you. I understand. Hope you enjoy it : ) * - johnson.carl - Dec 16, 2013 Wow this is fairly recent. I like the review, VERY good at not spoiling anything, including that awesome character that is secret in the beginning. Although it would be relevant to talk about that character in a forum like this. * - Chubaca - Dec 16, 2013 You did a good job on this review it does not look half bad. I also did a review on Sakurasuo a few months ago: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3455866 |
