Any love for visual novels around here? - Arbiter - Jul 30, 2014 After a casual poke around, it doesn't seem like there's any discussion about these. I suppose you could stick this under gaming if you really wanted to, but I feel like this is a better place. What is your favorite VN? What are you currently reading? Mine would be Rewrite, and I'm currently in the middle of reading Grisaia, and making good progress down my second route. * - Arbiter - Jul 30, 2014 (Jul 30, 2014 05:59 PM)King~ Wrote: I've read You should definitely check out the rest of the routes in Katawa Shoujo. It's quite well written, even if it can't compare to professionally produced VNs with full voice acting. * - Jay - Jul 30, 2014 Only two I have ever completed fully: - Katawa Shoujo - Phantom of Inferno * - Hentai - Jul 30, 2014 (Jul 30, 2014 05:59 PM)King~ Wrote: I've readDo you say read or play, because you do both. 😧 * - SIM-297877 - Jul 30, 2014 As in Manga? If so i have read; Nope, I was talking about visual novels. The wiki article does a fairly bad job of explaining it, but it's basically like a "choose your own adventure" thing. Quality of the story, animation and art can vary greatly from one to another, but stuff for newbies is usually well made and easy to read. An easier explanation can be found here. The easiest thing you could start with if you're interested is Katawa Shoujo, a free VN made by people over on /a/. It's fairly popular, and was the first VN for most people I've met. My absolute favorite amongst visual novels, and well worth reading for dozens of hours of entertainment you can get out of it. It's quite lighthearted, though some of the routes can get serious. Still loads of fun though. * - Exha - Jul 30, 2014 I only read Little Busters and I liked it. I may order more VNs when I feel like, even though I think they are rather expensive. * - NeuX - Jul 30, 2014 Muvluv and Hoshizora No Memoria and Sakura Spirit are my favourite. Sakura Spirit was mehh D: * - Lyralei - Jul 30, 2014 Haven't tried visual novels yet, i only read light novels. i might try them out someday :D * - Chips Ahoy McCoy - Jul 30, 2014 (Jul 30, 2014 08:21 PM)Lyralei Wrote: Haven't tried visual novels yet, i only read light novels. i might try them out someday :D You should play To The Moon. It's a visual-novel-esque game. (Not exactly a VN.) It has a really nice story etc. If you want I can give you my humble bundle link. * - Jay - Jul 30, 2014 (Jul 30, 2014 09:13 PM)Endomous Wrote: You should play To The Moon. Currently reading grisaia no rakuen and I love it. finished Sharin no kuni himewari shoujo, hoshizora no memoria, g senjou no maou, grisaia no kajitsu, umineko, and if my heart had wings, and katawa shoujo. Still have quite the backlog though. :/ Spoiler (Click to View) * - Fox - Jul 31, 2014 I've read a lot of them, but it's been a while and I still need to finish a few. List of VNs I've read: Clannad (I need to finish the last part.) Cross†Channel Go! Go! Nippon! ~My First Trip to Japan~ (Only read it for about an hour.) Katawa Shoujo Little Busters! School Days HQ Sugar’s Delight Wanko to Kurasou (I need to finish the last route.) Yume Miru Kusuri My favorite so far is Clannad, and I'm not currently reading anything as of today. I might finish reading Wanko to Kurasou soon. There's dozens of visual novels out there that I plan to read, but most of them aren't officially translated or don't have English patches. I recently started learning Japanese, so hopefully I'll be able to read them after a couple of years. * - Hume - Jul 31, 2014 (Jul 31, 2014 12:43 AM)Avilia Wrote: I've read some. G-Senjou No Maou - All Routes finished. Sharin No Kuni - Himawari No Shoujo - Touka's Ending. Grisaia No Kajitsu - Makina's and Sachi's Routes. If My Heart Had Wings - Asa's Route. Shuffle! - Kaede's Route. Wanko To Kurasou - Risa's Route. Hoshizora No Memoria - Asuho's Route. Shinigami No Kiss Wa Wakare No Aji - Shizuku's Route. My favourite would have to be Sharin No Kuni, Kenichi is so badass. |
