Delete question threads from the Hacking Tutorials section - SIM-2015410 - Nov 24, 2014

This leads on from my previous suggestion thread (Premium Hacking Tutorials clean up thread).

The Hacking Tutorials section is probably one of the largest sections on HF. It has 1120 pages of threads, which gives a huge 22400 threads in total. But as I was sorting through the threads looking for good Premium Tutorials, I noticed a huge number of question threads, which are not tutorials. For example:

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=13081
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=16817
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3907438
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=4540449
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=4538800
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=4548221

If someone were to junk/delete all these threads, that would be a huge benefit to the section, because it would firstly make finding legitimate tutorials easier, and would reduce the overall size of the forum.

All the threads should be in the beginners hacking forum. But it would be too large a job to move them all, and would help noone. Perhaps someone could be given the job of deleting all these threads? It is too hard to PM them all to a staff member. By the way, this is not a moderator suggestion so don't automatically deny it.

Feedback? After all, the Hacking sections should be the most important sections on the forum.

Why does it matter if there are more threads? :c

It makes the entire forum unwieldy. Fewer, higher quality threads would be much better than thousands of rubbish threads. None of the good tutorials can be found amid the rubbish.

I agree with this post. It's basically hell to find applicable information in certain areas of the forum, the hacking sections being some of the biggest offenders.

Because it is a tutorial section, not a questions section. Tutorials are too teach, it kind of defeats the purpose.

What I'm saying is, why don't you just make a compilation of all the tutorials in the section.

The main thing is that it would help me do that a lot. While I go through them it would be a good time to delete the useless threads at the same time. Do you have any idea how hard it is going to be going through the whole section finding all the good tutorials?

But sifting through pages of threads is how you grow hair on your nuts xD

Lol, I plan to sift through them all - that is the only way to do this job properly. But what I am saying, is that it would be the perfect time, while sifting through them all, to remove the junk ones.

Yup. Just awaiting a response from him now.

I do agree with this. I have noticed that every now and then there are burst of non-tutorials in the section which isn't that helpful. I would agree with this and I personally don't see any downsides to it as long as it becomes more enforced after the ones there are dealt with.

or simply edit the titles with the solutions, lock the thread and leave them there for future reference.
thats what i do when my questions are answered and im sure it helps out others

After all the current ones are dealt with, it would be easy to continue removing new threads or reporting them to a staff member. Thanks for your reply.

I don't think you read my suggestion properly. Regardless, they should not be in the Hacking Tutorials section but the Beginner Hacking section.

So, I have still not heard anything about this. Omniscient?

I moved the threads you linked to beginner hacking.

Most of the threads you are linking are old dead threads (some of which from 2008 and from closed accounts), I guarantee you almost every section on this forum has threads that are not meant to be there.

IMO I wouldn't waste time trying to find all the thread from years ago that are in the wrong section.

Just lookout for recent threads that are in the section that shouldn't be there and use the report feature. If 48 hours have passed report it to a mentor or lastly a staff member.
