Bypassing Windows Spying Settings TUT (No longer sending information to Microsoft) - Wirt - Jul 29, 2015 Hey. So I know a lot of people are uneasy about all of this security/privacy non-sense where Win10 sends your information and stuff the Microsoft... well, there's a way to prevent that. When installing Windows 10 and setting it up in the final stages, where it asks you to set up the settings, DO NOT CLICK "USE EXPRESS SETTINGS" click the option that says "Advanced" or similar in the bottom left corner. From there you can choose to not send Microsoft information regarding contacts and search history. After you're finished installing, restart. Then run CMD Console as admin, and type these all in separately: sc delete DiagTrack sc delete dmwappushservice echo "" > C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl and after you do that you can go to Settings --> Privacy and turn every off you don't want on. Also, as a reminder, you can NOT use Cortana if you don't want Microsoft to have your information and search history and such. Note: You can turn them ON after the installation is complete, but if you decide to turn them on for some reason, you can't turn them OFF again. * - ๖ۣۜSyria - Jul 29, 2015 Thanks for this :) Didnt know how to do it :) * - debug - Jul 29, 2015 Here's a good read/tutorial for a follow up: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/29/wind-nos/ * - Wirt - Jul 29, 2015 (Jul 29, 2015 10:00 AM)๖ۣۜSyriamanal Wrote: Thanks for this :) No problem (Jul 29, 2015 10:28 AM)debug Wrote: Here's a good read/tutorial for a follow up: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/29/wind-nos/ Ah yes, thank you for your contribution * - SIM-964740 - Jul 29, 2015 Oh no! Microsoft is sending bug reports to themselves to help improve the OS. This is such an invasion of privacy. They can see that Pornhub caused my system to crash :o * - lorikk - Jul 30, 2015 There's a option aswell for that, under Settings - Privacy - General - and (Send microsoft info about how i write to help us improve typing and writing in the future. ) * - Wirt - Jul 30, 2015 I have updated the OP with some more information on disabling and removing the services. * - Fộrcəd - Jul 30, 2015 (Jul 29, 2015 05:36 PM)Selcouth Wrote: Oh no! Still not invasion of privacy? * - SIM-2677866 - Jul 30, 2015 What if you already installed it with Express Settings? Will it still work? * - Wirt - Jul 30, 2015 (Jul 30, 2015 03:33 PM)Jukez Wrote: What if you already installed it with Express Settings? Most likely. Believe it or not many applications already do this including websites. I mean if you have a problem with Microsoft trying to make the best possible operating system for you then by all means disable such fearures but you get the wrong idea when it comes to text collection. Especially since this provides a source for Microsoft to learn you speaking habits. If you were to spell 'the' as 'teh' frequently, for example, Windows would pick up on this and correct it. But hey, Microsoft may just want to store millions of people's data on databases just for the hell of it. At least my story's on Word will have a reader. * - Fộrcəd - Aug 1, 2015 (Jul 30, 2015 03:49 PM)Selcouth Wrote: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/preview-privacy-statement I see your point of view but we have do major different ones. Don't care if they get to store my school exam review report or something like that. But the fact that they are allowing them self to do it, is scary What we will allow them to do in 2 years? |
