Removed guys. Sorry about that

Wow. These are great instructions. Really HQ thread. I'm sure this will help out a few people.
On another note you seem like the kind of guy who knows what he's talking about with Wi-Fi antennas and such. I want to get a really big but hopefully somewhat cheap antenna that I could stick on my roof or put outside on the grass. I don't really want it to be specific to one direction. I'd like to be able to pick up wifi from all directions for let's say maybe 6-7 houses over. What would you suggest?

Wow, what a detailed thread this is. I am sure this will help several people. Keep the good work up mate.

Its hard to tell without knowing more abt the environment like threes/bushes walls and such.. Its complicated at the same time cos of the interference from other routers that works close to the same channel/same channel, long distance will just kill the router signals, because the router who is closer to you will owerpower the weak router, that will disappear in the background noise

However

If you live in a quiet place (Not that many routers around) its possible to catch a signal from far away with the right antenna

I live in an area where there are a lot of trees. Not very many buildings. I doubt there are many modems/routers. Like I said i'd prefer something that would work a nice distance in any direction and could be put on a roof or in the grass.

high grass, trees and bushes can sadly reduce the strongest signal down to almost zero, depending if you live on the ground or over the treeline.

Right now i'm on the ground but I know we are moving soon and I might be getting up on the side of a mountain. If that's the case I would probably use a directional antenna. But for right now i'd like to get something that would go in all directions and could be thrown on the roof.

well one 24dBi Parabolic Grid antenna would be nice :D

This manual is good for beginners. There are people complaining that the 24dBi Grid does not work.

Blah blah.. Removed as usual

Why you say that? It is not genuine? What I need to know to buy a not fake tpl 24 grid antenna?
Thanks in advance.

Luckily there are no fake 24dbi grid antennas on the market... at least that I am aware of.
What he meant is probably that this type of antenna is calculated, stamped out in 1000s of samples and for example every 1000th sample is tested.
"Good" antenas have higher manufacturing standards, therefore they are considered more HQ.
You can also see in assembly pictures that there are no "accurate position holders", so parabola shape varies from assembly to assembly... But at least in my experience, this specfic antenna does its job!

I've setup something like this to get internet at my grandparents place which is in a remote area .
