HTTPS Support Added
On October 4th Omniscient made the changes for HF to be served with HTTPS as opposed to HTTP which was what served HF before. This was done in an effort to make HF more secure by using the HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) instead of the HTTP (The Hypertext Transfer Protocol) protocol. >>Source

IMG tags require HTTPS
On the same day HTTPS was added Omniscient made several announcements on the new image formatting, one of which was requiring HTTPS in all IMG tags for the images to be displayed correctly. For our convenience Omniscient added a filter which automatically converts all i.imgur.com, the most popular image host, links to HTTPS. However, if the images in your thread are not hosted on imgur you must convert them to HTTPS manually.>>Source

Change your images to HTTPS
In another effort to make HF more secure, Omniscient has asked all members to review their profiles and threads to make sure all their images are using HTTPS instead of HTTP. Omniscient also stated that if you have an avatar, signature, or thread with images and image tags which are not HTTPS then they will either be deleted or not displayed correctly. >>Source

Signature IMG tags require HTTPS
Relating to the previous announcements, Omniscient has deleted all image based signatures which did not have an HTTPS link. As with the regular IMG tags, all i.imgur.com images have been automatically converted but the the rest must be manually updated to HTTPS. >>Source

NASA Sent a Drone to Track Hurricane Matthew
The NASA Global Hawk is a drone specifically designed for tracking disasters. The drone has a flight time of over 34 hours and can reach altitudes up to 60,000 feet above ground. The aircraft is mostly used to aid the US troops in Afghanistan and Iraq to find targets but it is now being sent to drop censors inside Hurricane Matthew to track its temperature, speed, pressure, humidity, as well as wind speed and direction. Apart from tracking the hurricane, Global Hawk will also be used to aid people from above to increase their chances of surviving on the ground.

Why 'Hoppy' Beer May Be Better for Your Liver
The damaging effects of alcohol to our liver is no secret, but scientists have discovered that the affects of beer with hops lessen the negative effect. Researchers recently conducted a study on mice and the results showed that mice who were given beer with hops had less fat buidup in their liver than mice who were given beer with ethanol. The study also backs the phenomenon of why drinking hard liquor is linked to death from liver damage moreso than drinking a light beer. However since the study was performed on mice the results are anywhere but concrete, and human test subjects would be needed to prove if the long term effects in people are the same.

Humans May Have Reached Maximum Life Span
According to a new study, our life span growth may be slowing down or even coming to a complete halt. In 1997 the oldest person living was a woman who died at the age of 122, and scientist claim the record is not likely to be broken. The study states that it is opposing previous suggestions that human longevity is increasing and stating that our duration of life is actually limited. However, they are not claiming that it is impossible for us to grow older than 122. If history repeats itself we may very well live to be older as scientists used to believe that humans would never reach the age 110 until it happened. Predicting human mortality is tricky, but let's hope we can break the record once again.

South Korean President Calls for North Koreans to Defect
A day after a North Korean soldier walked across the heavily fortified border into the South, the South Korean President Park Geun-hye has encouraged North Koreans to defect. Calling her country the “bosom of freedom,” Geun-hye invited North Koreans to relocate to South Korea. The South Korean president has promised freedom, democracy, human rights, and welfare for those that cross the border. This statement comes only a month after North Korea’s deputy ambassador to Britain defected to South Korea. The relations between North and South Korea are at their lowest point since the Cold War in the 1970s. This year alone, North Korea has carried out more than 20 missile test-fires and two nuclear tests. >>Source

Majority of Data in Chinese Clinical Trials Found to be Fabricated
The Chinese FDA has found that 80 percent of clinical trial data within its country has been fabricated. When the outcomes or data were not to the pharmaceutical companies’ liking, the data was altered or removed. The fraudulent behavior was discovered to be happening at all levels within companies. In many cases, the clinical trial outcomes were written before the trials even took place. As a result of the fraudulent activity, 80 percent of current drug applications which were waiting approval have been cancelled. >>Source

Indian Call Center Employees Detained
A major raid has resulted in over 500 Indian call center employees being detained in Mira Road, India. The employees are being detained for allegedly threatening US citizens and siphoning off funds from their financial institutions shortly thereafter. The call center employees falsely posed as officials of the US Tax Department, and would threaten the victims with legal action if they did not hand over their financial and bank details. The issue warranted a raid of the Mira Road call centers by over 200 police personnel. It is estimated that over $150,000 was stolen as a result of the call-center operation. >>Source

Replacement Samsung Catches on Fire on Plane
After an incredibly damaging, costly and image tarnishing recall of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7, what may be the first incidence of a recall Note 7 catching fire has been reported this week. What makes it even worse? Well, it caught fire on an airplane. On a Southwest Airlines flight heading for Baltimore, passenger Brian Green's freshly recalled and replaced smartphone began to smoke from his pocket. At that point he threw it from his pocket onto the floor, to which it caught fire and burned through the floor of the cabin. Green himself has stated that the phone was in fact a replacement phone, even showing the box indicating his phone was replaced, as well as signs the phone itself was a replacement. Luckily, no injuries were sustained and passengers evacuated the plane safely. Samsung has put out a statement regarding the incident, claiming that they cannot confirm that the phone was indeed a replacement Note 7 until they obtain the device. They have also said they will share more information about the situation once the phone is in their hands.

Google Announces 4K Chromecast Variant
With the popularity of their original TV streaming device, the Chromecast, Google has announced at their Pixel event that a 4K capable streaming device will be available from them very soon, and for under $100. The Chromecast Ultra will be able to play media from YouTube, Netflix and other services at launch, and will gain support of some other services later in the year. The Ultra is not only 4K compatible, but improved Wi-Fi capabilities and an added ethernet port makes it load much faster in almost every environment. Although the innards have changed, the Chromecast Ultra keeps it's low profile, circular design - but won't be keeping the original price tag. While the original Chromecast retailed at just over $30, the Chromecast Ultra will set you back over double that, priced at $69. Google says the Ultra will be available for purchase in the US this November.

Amazon Bans Incentivized Reviews
Along with a large overhaul to their Community Guidelines, Amazon is doing away with incentivized, or paid reviews from companies. This doesn't include Amazon's themselves though, as they have their own system known as the Amazon Vine which lets trusted reviewers to create unbiased reviews. There is an exception to the ban though. Paid reviewers who are "honest", or reveal that it is a they have received the product for free, then it is acceptable. Before this, Amazon has gone as far as to sue companies who secretly pay reviewers for positive reviews, and has even sued those giving the reviews. A spokesperson from Amazon has stated that reviews violating this new policy will be removed beginning on the date the new policy took effect, but previous offenders writing these reviews will stay up on the site, if the review does not break prior policies.

War of the Planet of the Apes Video Game
Andy Serkis revealed that War of the Planet of the Apes will be accompanied with a video game at his New York Comic-Con panel this week! Serkis will be performing motion capture for the game that will be coming to consoles around the same time the movie comes to theaters. Andy Serkis didn't reveal much information, but what he did reveal was very interesting. "I don't think it's ever been done before," Serkis said. "We created it at the Imaginarium, which is my studio. Without giving too much away about it, it's not like a first-person shooter. It feels like an interactive movie. And that's all I can say other than that it will be coming out around the same time as the movie." Serkis also revealed that is a companion based and not directly based on characters that will appear in the film. This won't be the first time Serkis features in video games. He has worked with the Ninja, Devil May Cry's developer, by providing motion capture and voice work in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the west. He also voiced characters in Risen and Volume. Serkis is also set to feature in the upcoming space video game Star Citizen! War for the Planet of the Apes opens in theaters on July 14, 2017. It stars Serkis, alongside Judy Greer (Ant-Man), Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), and Steve Zahn (Dallas Buyers Club). The film is helmed by Matt Reeves, who previously directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield. You can watch War for the Planet of the Apes' teaser trailer here.

Mafia 3 Begins with Statement About Racism
Mafia III's intent to tackle the issue of racism has been known for awhile. Now that the game has been released, it has come to attention that there is actually a line of text at the start of the game in which developer Hangar 13 explains the importance of not shying away from depicting the "shameful" realities of the south in 1968. Some of the characters in Mafia III harbor racist beliefs and act upon them, but Hangar 13 believe that racism is key to telling the story of a mixed-race Vietnam war veteran. You can read the full statement here. "It really was just to acknowledge, 'Hey look, we are attacking a subject that makes people uncomfortable and we felt like we needed to in order to capture the sense of time and place,'" he told GameSpot. "It's just part of the game, but it's not the primary focus," Harms said. "Mafia III is really about Lincoln Clay just destroying the entire mafia. Because of who he is, those racial elements do come in and are reflected in the world as you make your way through it."

Final Fantasy 15's Moogles Revealed!
As teased, Final Fantasy 15 will have Moogles, Square Enix has confirmed. The recently launched Moogle-themed teaser site's countdown clock has reached zero, revealing how Moogles work in Final Fantasy XV and a promotion called Moogle Collection. As explained on the site, Moogles will be lucky items that appear in Final Fantasy 15. The appearance in this game will be similar to their representation in Final Fantasy 10; they're dolls. "Take Moogle dolls and goods as your lucky charm to help avoid all kinds of troubles," Square Enix said. "Maybe Moogle will help out when Noctis and his friends are in a tight spot." A Moogle-themed reward program, Moogle Collection, has also been announced. For every new follower to the official Final Fantasy XV English and Japanese Twitter accounts, a new Moogle will appear. When the number of new Moogles reaches a "certain amount," users will receive a Moogle reward. The rewards have not been revealed, but the website design suggests that there will be at least 7 rewards to look forward to!
