  MANGA & LIGHT NOVEL NEWS

Hunter x Hunter Manga to continue in 2017! However, potential new writer may change the series.

Quote:There's some good news for "Hunter X Hunter" fans, as rumors have been circulating that the series will resume in 2017 and it will be having a new writer. There are some fans though who are fearing that a new writer will change the way story of the series goes.
According to GameNGuide, there have been reports that the Shueisha, the publisher of "Hunter X Hunter," is set to resume the manga series sometime in 2017 (most likely around February or later). And it has been rumored that creator Yoshihiro Togashi is being replaced.
The grapevine in the manga world is that Togashi is already unable to continue making the manga due to a sickness and the publisher has been looking for a replacement for him. One artist that is said to be replacing Togashi is Sui Ishida, the creator of "Tokyo Ghoul."
Though Ishida is a great manga artist, fans are worried that about this move of Shueisha. The Bitbag reports that there are speculations circulating that new writers would also mean new ambiance for the series.
It is a fact in the manga industry that an artist's work reflects his or her personality. So putting a new artist in an already ongoing series like "Hunter X Hunter" would mean that there will now be a different approach in making the chapters of the manga.
If indeed a new artist would be used to continue the series, fans are expecting that "Hunter X Hunter" would have a different feeling. However, everything is not yet final and one artist who is also rumored to be considered to continue the series is Naoko Takeuchi, Togashi's wife.
There are even rumors that she is already preparing the script for the next chapter. If this is true, Takeuchi is the perfect candidate to replace Togashi as the writer of "Hunter X Hunter."
As Togashi's wife, Takeuchi definitely knows Togashi better. Plus, she is an award-winning manga artist herself, having created the hit manga "Sailor Moon."
If Shueisha does hire a new writer to continue "Hunter X Hunter" in 2017, then Takeuchi should be the choice. With her as the writer, there likely won't be drastic changes to the manga series.

Traditional Japanese Umbrellas and the Future of Anime

Quote:Hiyoshiya is a company that specialises in wagasa: traditional Japanese oil-paper umbrellas. It has previously collaborated with Kadokawa at the Kyomaf (Kyoto Manga and Anime Fair) and it’s in the forefront of many attempts to combine anime and traditional culture. The Otaku and the traditional Japanese crafts industries share a lot of things in common but they don’t seem to cooperate very often. However, with the 2020 Olympic Games coming to Tokyo, these two aspects of the country had to finally acknowledge each other.

Manga.Tokyo visited Hiyoshiya’s store and atelier for an exclusive interview and photo report. They have been energetically aiming to combine anime and traditional Japanese culture for a long time and we wanted to know more their work, the difficulties they face, and their future plans...
