Host your own [ - HIDDEN SERVICE - ] on your RASPBERRY PI!

I just saw a question from a user in the networking section on how he should keep his anonymity so here it is my answer for you ✌

Some information about tor:
https://www.torproject.org/about/overview.html.en

Some information about hidden services:
https://www.torproject.org/docs/hidden-services.html.en

Install tor
Code
sudo apt-get install tor

File with tor configuration
Code
sudo nano /etc/tor/torrc

Add or uncomment these lines!

Lines that will enable your hidden service

Code
HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/hidden_service/
HiddenServicePort 80 127.0.0.1:80

This service would enable HTTP as a service if you want to promote another Hidden service (Ex. SSH)

Code
HiddenServicePort 22 127.0.0.1:22
When you configured all your services you want to use you can initiate TOR.

Start tor
Code
sudo service tor start

The next steps require root permission!
Gives you root.
Code
sudo -s

Navigate to the directory that contains your private key and your hostname.
Code
cd /var/lib/tor/hidden_service

Code
root@raspberrypi:/var/lib/tor/hidden_service# ls -l
total 8
-rw------- 1 debian-tor debian-tor  23 Dec 18 10:35 hostname
-rw------- 1 debian-tor debian-tor 891 Dec 18 10:35 private_key

This file contains your Hostname for the service
Code
cat hostname

Ex output.
Code
rplkaajufbvszazi.onion

Your service should now work!

Nice thread, haven't tried it yet. My suggestion would be to briefly explain what this will do and stuff, for the people that don't know. Again, nice thread.

i'll give it a go, i'd prefer to have a new ass rpi but mine's only a version 2? not that powerful ;_; maybe a small chat server or something to call my own would be neat :) thanks for the inspiration either way OP

This is a cool topic seeing it as I picked up a Raspberry Pi 3 and an Arduino. I'm wondering what I should do with them. I'm not familiar with linux/debian/ubuntu at all. I've been a Windows user since Windows 95. With the Pi I was wondering if I could open a dn market address or onion address. Heck, I really want to learn more about how to have an onion address/website. Looks cool!
Anyway, great share on how to execute some code in the terminal.
