Giving Away A Free Book Question - J. McCarthy - Jan 20, 2017 Hi I want to giveaway a short motivational eBook I've written for free to members. I will be purchasing a sticky for it, however, I want to know if it's allowed to require people to post on the thread to receive the book? * - Soulmate~っ☆ - Jan 20, 2017 That's not allowed it's called "Post to PM". * - Prophett - Jan 20, 2017 You can say something along the lines of "post below to receive this". * - J. If this is in fact the case am I allowed to require members to PM me in order to receive? * - Soulmate~っ☆ - Jan 20, 2017 (Jan 20, 2017 12:13 PM)Medd Wrote: You can say something along the lines of "post below to receive this". No, he can't it's both stated in the section rules and posting etiquette rules. 7. No "Post Here and PM me" threads will be allowed. This includes "Post Here and I'll PM You" or any "Post to PM" threads. Free Services and Giveaways 6. No requirement to post to get PM (post to PM). * - J. Well I understand the rules for that section However I'm asking in the case that I'm paying to sticky/advertise it edit: Probably the lounge * - Prophett - Jan 20, 2017 (Jan 20, 2017 12:15 PM)Kindred Spirits Wrote: No, he can't it's both stated in the section rules and posting etiquette rules. I see this all the time. Who moderates the free services and giveaways section? I have not seen anyone face consequences. * - Soulmate~っ☆ - Jan 20, 2017 (Jan 20, 2017 12:16 PM)Formula1 Wrote: Well I understand the rules for that section However I'm asking in the case that I'm paying to sticky/advertise it I don't think that changes the fact you're breaking the rule, but I believe asking them to PM you is fine. The mentors and staff moderate it so report the post if you see them breaking the rule. * - Mr Whiskey - Jan 20, 2017 Post to PM always confused me because I see it ALL the time. "Post below or PM me to get this" * - VirtualFrost - Jan 20, 2017 Isn't it that you can't ask a user to post AND THEN PM as it results in a free bump, you're allowed to give the option to post and then OP PM's you, or straight up let the person PM you without posting. Anyway, if you're getting a sticky, would it matter if they post? Just ask them to PM you to receive it. * - J. That's what I thought it was also, post then pm me. I thought post to receive it was allowed. Anyways yeah because I want to know who's receiving it not just post the link * - Elitas - Jan 20, 2017 Why not just do "PM me to receive it" ? * - Eagle 95 - Jan 20, 2017 Just because it's a paid sticky, it can be only exempt from marketplace violations such as posting a marketplace thread outside marketplace (I know this isn't marketplace thread just saying). All other rules still apply. Here is the explanation what you can and cannot say when doing that giveaway. Also, I see no point of having post to PM, your thread is going to be on top as it's a sticky, no need to bump it and break rules. * - J. The point of it for me isn't that I want it bumped I'm requiring a post because I want them to publicly commit to the change. Psychologically a public commitment yields better results (Jan 20, 2017 01:27 PM)Elitas Wrote: Why not just do "PM me to receive it" ? I can but again I'm looking for people to make a public commitment I think I'll have them PM me and along with the guide strongly urge for the commitment statement. Is it allowed to say please PM me OR post to receive? Just thinking of >25 post members Thank you for the help Eagle, pleasure as always. * - Revenge - Jan 21, 2017 (Jan 20, 2017 05:55 PM)Formula1 Wrote: The point of it for me isn't that I want it bumpedNo I believe that is also against the rules to say PM or Post. It is another form of Post to PM really. Here are a few threads that I found that suggest it is against the rules: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3310994 https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3349795&pid=31434151#pid31434151 I think you should just stay aware from doing both and just asking for one honestly. |
