The Omega2 Will Make Raspberry Pi's Redundant - Demoralise - Feb 9, 2017 It is much cheaper and just as effective * - webdev77 - Feb 10, 2017 Unless you are talking about a different product than I'm thinking of, it is in no way going to replace a Raspberry Pi. No HDMI, no usb, no microSD card, etc. * - datguy.dev - Feb 10, 2017 If I'm not mistaken, the $9 c.h.i.p has better specs and features than the Omega2 Plus ($9 model). The c.h.i.p is available now, yet the Rpi' is still selling more units. The Rpi is something like the Ubuntu of dev boards. It's not going anywhere because it is proven, popular, and mature. If you want to kill the Pi, make an x86 board that costs around the same as the full sized Rpi boards. I'm not really saying one way or the other. It is great to have all these options. One device is smaller. The other device has video or wifi. In the end, you go with the device that suits the application. * - izana - Feb 10, 2017 The RaspberryPi isn't going anywhere. Competition is good, but it's going to be hard for anyone to make something as powerful as the Pi at the same price. The RaspberryPi Foundation is non-profit, so they have a huge advantage there in terms of pricing and funding. Not to mention, the RPi community is massive and it's incredibly easy to get help. Any viable competitor must be able to offer the same level of support. What we need is more products to fill the niche where the RPi is unsuitable. Stuff like VoCore, ESP8266 and C.H.I.P. are definitively interesting. * - Celph - Feb 10, 2017 (Feb 9, 2017 09:19 PM)Demoralise Wrote: It is much cheaper and just as effective just as effective how when its missing almost all the shit that pi has? |
