CPU overheats when running antivirus - Tr0janVirus - Oct 16, 2018 Recently I uninstalled Free Kaspersky AV because if I ran a full scan once a week the CPU goes to a 100%, the fan goes nuts but the computer doesn't shut down. I tried BitDefender and same problem, I don't do anything besides check my email and finish my homework for my classes. I haven't installed any 3rd party apps besides PopcornTime to watch free movies. Other than that, I don't know what's going on. I'm using Windows Defender, Malwarebytes and CCleaner. Please help thanks RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - animalchub - Oct 17, 2018 OP you might need to clean your case. However a CPU will run close to max while doing a virus scan. Using the background scan option might solve this issue. It runs the scan at a lower priority. Duster = bad. You don’t want to introduce any static electricity into the case or components. While most components are a lot safer against ESD than they used to be, why risk it. Thanks for bringing that up RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Tr0janVirus - Oct 18, 2018 Ok but I have a laptop, is there a safe way to open it? I have a surface laptop RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Gt403cyl - Oct 18, 2018 (Oct 18, 2018 08:47 PM)Tr0janVirus Wrote: Ok but I have a laptop, is there a safe way to open it? I have a surface laptop Honestly not sure, don't have much exp with them. RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Neta - Oct 19, 2018 What CPU do you have exactly? If you have a 'weak-ish' CPU then that would probably be why. RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Tr0janVirus - Oct 19, 2018 Processor: Intel Core i7-7660U I have the surface laptop RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Neta - Oct 20, 2018 (Oct 19, 2018 03:53 PM)Tr0janVirus Wrote: Processor: Intel Core i7-7660U Right. I wouldn't say it's necessarily uncommon for CPU to be at 100% or near it when running anti-virus. RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Bastille - Oct 21, 2018 Hello there ! This is pretty normal that your cpu runs at 100% for scanning. Do you have an idea about the temp of your CPU when your are running a scan on your computer ? If you don't, download Speccy and then post here. RE: CPU overheats when running antivirus - Gt403cyl - Oct 21, 2018 (Oct 21, 2018 08:11 AM)Yseurk Wrote: Hello there ! Speccy is unreliable for checking temps, use HWMonitor, Aida64 or RealTemp. Didn't know, thanks for those tools 🙂 |
