NSFW [SFW] HackForums - SUI-3183372 - Jan 5, 2019

Back in 2012 or 2013, we had a feature here called NSFW Hackforums. It was essentially just a cname for the HackForums domain named 'nsfw', and it allowed us to browse HF (using hackforums.net) without seeing the HF banner, avatars, signatures, etc. Essentially, it created a "safer" looking site for browsing in public.

While I'm aware that the content on this site has swung towards more acceptable and morally conscious topics, I still find myself blocking any elements that displays variations of the word "hack" and other elements that may cause others looking over my shoulder to question the content I'm viewing. I've even gone as far as to create a plugin for my laptop's browser to replace "high impact" words (example 'hacked'->'modified').

Obviously, hackforums.net no longer works, but I was curious if there has been any demand to bring this feature back, and if not, I'd like to be the first to suggest its return.

I know that there is a lot on HF's plate right now with Crews and integrating the forum game into HF. I'm just making this suggestion to show that there is at least 1 person here who misses that feature, and maybe it can be revisited in the future.

I currently block the same elements and would like this feature myself.

It would be nice to browse this forum and work without peering eyes from time to time lol

Embrace the name! This site is not for criminals, just tell people it's a forum for technology discussion.

Here was the feature's announcement for anyone wishing to learn more about it: https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3524245

While I partially agree with you, the negative connotation surrounding the word 'hack[er]' needs to go, I do have a rocky history with this site and a federal felony for computer hacking. So, in my personal case, it's best that people just don't see it at all as people like to jump to all sorts of bad conclusions with me. As for others, I think it's just nice to be able to browse without having any concern for those around you.

Weird, that result didn't show up when I search 'nsfw' in this section, I didn't realize this had been suggested in the last year.

That's disappointing but understandable. I'll leave this topic up to show that there are other's who'd use this feature if it did return, but I realize it'd probably be incredibly low priority.

RE: NSFW [SFW] HackForums - Orgy - Jan 5, 2019

that would probably result in more activity from me haha

RE: NSFW [SFW] HackForums - Clause - Jan 5, 2019

I would love for there to be an alternative domain where "hack" is not in the name. It would make the network administrator less concerned.

RE: NSFW [SFW] HackForums - Michael - Jan 5, 2019

I actually used this feature so much back in the days.
Would be nice if this would return.

RE: NSFW [SFW] HackForums - Cooligan - Jan 5, 2019

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing this feature make a return.

It was really good for mobile at the time.

Sorry, it's not coming back.
