Getting one cracked version isn't going to be useful you are right. Which is why I strive on learning how to crack it myself so I can keep up with the updates. But every cracked version could pose useful if the code can be compared to see what they did. But that also means it needs to be an unprotected crack which is a problem in and of itself to get a hold of.
