ssh into server issues - Dub34 - Oct 22, 2024

I’m trying to ssh into my Linux cloud server but it not letting me ssh how do I change it where it allows my ip address on the cloud server end?

Sometimes you have to make the modification on the control panel of your provider, otherwise if you have to make the modification on the concerned Linux server :

Code
sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config

Edit the following :
Code
AllowUsers your_user@your_ip_address

Configure the firewall :
Code
sudo ufw allow from your_ip_address to any port 22

And restart the service : sudo systemctl restart sshd

Let us know how it goes

Can you elaborate on the problem? It should be pretty obvious if the connection is blocked, but "not letting me" could mean a lot of things.

It ask for a public key and I generate one but follow the dream host tutorial (dream host is the cloud provider I chose)

That still tells me nothing. A connection timeout would indicate that ssh could not connect. However, Dreamhost does not list any firewall or network rules. If you get a permission denied error, there's a problem with the shared keys. If you're willing to follow directions, please run this command (changing placeholders as needed), copy the output, and paste it in a reply.

Code
ssh -i private_key -vv [email protected]
