If you were homeless tomorrow - Pr0m3th3us - Feb 15, 2025 I made this thread https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6292379 and the encounter got me thinking… What would you do? Do you have a plan? I’m interested to hear peoples thoughts as most don’t “plan” on being homeless. Personally I sorta have a plan, I have all my camping gear in one giant 30lb backpack I use when I go camping and hiking on 3ish day excursions in the national forests. I bring snacks and fish and eat wild plants (I have a book and know most of them in my area) But I would have to stay outside of cites to avoid getting robbed or mugged I guess 🤷🏼♂️😑 also a fire would attract attention… I would also try to keep my vehicle but without money for fuel or repairs obviously I would lose it eventually. Anyways lots of factors here. Basically I’d go either way the flow. What happens…happens. Fuck it. I mean the job market is cooked right now. They want 5 to 10 year of work experience right out of college which is insane. I know many like me that never got a chance to enter their profession of choice when going to college. for me I would stay in the city and just steal shit. I would find an abandon home or office building and just squat there. I would reopen the gas lines and disconnect it by the meter and just have it bypass it. I would get the tools by stealing them. Then I would get free natural gas going. This is of course you're saying if I am homeless and it's not an apocalyptic situation. RE: If you were homeless tomorrow - Bastille - Feb 16, 2025 To be honest I don't know, I couldn't imagine myself without computers / internet, not because I'm a junky / nerd, but because I love working in this field, I enjoy learning about hacking, cybersecurity, ... That makes me think about the sad story of Adrian Lamo which was known as the "Homeless Hacker" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Lamo If I was homeless I know that I would do the necessary to get back on my feet, even if I need to start with a not well paid job. I'm not sure I would be interested traveling all around the world, I like my daily comfort, I'm not someone who likes to travel / go on vacations and so on. RE: If you were homeless tomorrow - Artisan - Feb 16, 2025 I would park my laptop at a friends (already have their name in my head). Have a wife and kid so would have to find a hostel type setup for them at least. Prefer not to stay in my car as there are risks associated with it (like theft and parking violations). In the short term, I would stay at a religious establishment as a live-in employee at places that would take me (preferably religious establishments). RE: If you were homeless tomorrow - Countzer094 - Feb 16, 2025 move out in the wilderness, become the hermit i have always wanted to be. RE: If you were homeless tomorrow - Flan. - Feb 16, 2025 It's definitely important to have a plan in case of unexpected situations like homelessness. Your camping gear sounds like a good start, and knowing how to forage for food is a useful skill. Staying outside of cities to avoid danger makes sense. It's true, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and see what happens. Stay safe out there. RE: If you were homeless tomorrow - W1000 - Feb 16, 2025 I would beg my friends to let me crash for a week, then beg online friends to let me work for them so I can have guaranteed money while I work on something long term. Maybe even need to rotate friends houses every week until I have enough income that I can rent a dirt cheap roach infested house. Hahaha, metaphorically begging, theyre all my friends, I treat everyone in my life that I like well, I bet all of them would let me crash, Roach infested apt never done before, but hey, I think it would beat being homeless? |
