ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - thatcyplex34 - Aug 7, 2025 So on the ThinkPad website, I was looking for workstations I could set up as a home server, and I’m not talking about the cheap, underpowered ones. I’m talking about the really beefy machines. I came across the ThinkStation P5 (Intel) workstation. The base model starts at $3K, but the high-end version goes up to $10K. That one comes with 128GB of DDR5 RAM, an Intel Xeon W7-2495X processor (2.50 GHz, up to 4.80 GHz), and an NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation GPU with 32GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Honestly, I keep asking myself why I’d need to spend that much, but at the same time, I just really want it. Whether it’s for heavy 3D modeling that a MacBook can’t handle or to use it as a powerful homelab server, it feels justified. RE: ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - DramaKing - Aug 7, 2025 Wow, an Intel-based workstation. Just want to point out that the Ryzen Threadripper 9960X also has 24 cores but is ~62% faster than the W7-2495X and cheaper. Check this out before you buy. https://copilot.microsoft.com/shares/3ZhFEtW9XqSqzdA2XiBpH RE: ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - thatcyplex34 - Aug 7, 2025 (Aug 7, 2025 08:23 AM)DramaKing Wrote: Wow, an Intel-based workstation. Thanks for the suggestion I’m looking to set up a server and set up a VPN to remotely connect to it but for the VPN part I using WireGuard RE: ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - DramaKing - Aug 7, 2025 (Aug 7, 2025 05:19 PM)thatcyplex34 Wrote: Thanks for the suggestion I’m looking to set up a server and set up a VPN to remotely connect to it but for the VPN part I using WireGuard 10/10, no notes RE: ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - ProxyLand - Aug 8, 2025 To me, that looks pretty nice! I've never had a server in that fashion with anything over my ole DDR4 in my ole optiplex 7040 MiniTower w 64GB Ram Compacity. 3D Printing "prints" alot of money these days with making items, if you feel justified from the usage of that workstation with that, then by all means.. sounds like a good plan. Then of course the home server too, win win. RE: ThinkStation P5 (Intel) Workstation - HALx86 - Aug 23, 2025 Is there a reason you want a computer like that in a laptop? Just the ease of moving or the battery? |
