So on the ThinkPad website, I was looking for workstations I could set up as a home server, and I’m not talking about the cheap, underpowered ones. I’m talking about the really beefy machines. I came across the ThinkStation P5 (Intel) workstation. The base model starts at $3K, but the high-end version goes up to $10K. That one comes with 128GB of DDR5 RAM, an Intel Xeon W7-2495X processor (2.50 GHz, up to 4.80 GHz), and an NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation GPU with 32GB of GDDR6 VRAM.
Honestly, I keep asking myself why I’d need to spend that much, but at the same time, I just really want it. Whether it’s for heavy 3D modeling that a MacBook can’t handle or to use it as a powerful homelab server, it feels justified.
