Personal Data Breach at the French Shooting Federation - Bastille - Nov 8, 2025 The French Shooting Federation (FFTir) has been the victim of a cyberattack (18th October, Saturday) that led to a personal data breach affecting its members. This breach involves the following data:
No medical or banking data were affected. Since the Federation does not store information related to firearm ownership, such data were not impacted either. In my opinion this will lead to serious issues, imagine knowing where these people live, you can target their homes and steal their weapons, as mentioned by the authorities : Quote:Due to the nature of the FFTir’s activity, the Paris Police Prefecture warns about possible calls or visits from fake law enforcement representatives targeting licensed members. Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr relays these warnings: While I was writing this thread I stumbled uppon an article that might be linked to this hack : Quote:According to Europe 1 (radio), in Paris, a man posing as a police officer entered the home of a sport shooter just days after the data breach at the French Shooting Federation. RE: Personal Data Breach at the French Shooting Federation - DramaKing - Nov 8, 2025 The French are allowed to own firearms and store them in their homes? Under certain conditions, yes — you have to be registered as a sport shooter, meaning you go to shooting ranges to practice target shooting. There are strict rules about how firearms must be stored at home and how they’re transported to the range. You’re not allowed to use them anywhere else, and even with a shooting license, fully automatic weapons cannot be purchased. You’re also limited in the number of firearms you can own and the amount of ammunition you can buy each year. It's not well-known because it's not part of french culture, and it's not that easy to register and get the license, most of the time you're on a waiting list. Besides you can't register and then own a weapon, you must at least wait 1 year I think, pass an exam, and get the authorization. RE: Personal Data Breach at the French Shooting Federation - Vectura - Nov 8, 2025 That’s genuinely scary. A breach like this isn’t just about privacy, it’s about physical safety. If someone can map out where licensed gun owners live, that’s basically a shopping list for criminals. The fake police angle makes it even worse; it’s social engineering on top of data theft. Hopefully the authorities start treating this with the urgency it deserves. RE: Personal Data Breach at the French Shooting Federation - webdev77 - Nov 8, 2025 Ironically the state of California intentionally shared the names and home addresses of every firearm owner in the state. It wasn't even stolen. The state government just shared it because California is clearly so much smarter than everywhere else. France might not be succeeding in maintaining adequate protections in this instance, but at least they aren't actively being stupid. Unfortunately the authorities will do nothing, criminals are safe in France, this country and its justice system are a fucking joke ... For 1000€ spent from our taxes, only 7€ are dedicated to justice / jail, while almost 600€ are dedicated to social benefits. I wouldn't be surprised to hear more about weapons owner's houses being burgled soon ... That sounds crazy to me, they've deliberately put a target on weapons owners' houses RE: Personal Data Breach at the French Shooting Federation - kas7 - Jul 21, 2026 thank you man |
