Texas Holdem - Skills game - Hackers - Nov 23, 2025 Holdem is technically a skills game, according to certain countries and states The reason is because Texas Holdem is traditionally played with 1 deck of cards, and there are known statistics per hand. It's mathematically possible to have an edge, as-in if everyone plays purely mathematically at a high level then you can move into bluffing or detecting a bluff. This is a lot different than a game of chance like roulette - which does have math, but too much randomness to be a skills game. In Holdem there is still the randomness of the shuffle, but there is enough gameplay where you can fold, or call a bet, or raise. The real problem with tables is that the casinos often charge a house rake that can really take away from all players' ability to benefit from statistical guarantees. Without a rake, you only have to deal with small/big blind turns, or in some cases a required ante for all as well. I like Texas Holdem because it's a lot more fun and there's a bigger margin between bad, average, and good players so if you learn a bit and practice you can really profit from players w/ less experience. The best part though is that because its based on math long-term, you can get an edge over an equal or better poker player by developing your social game (or lack thereof), ability to bluff, and to read the room. I personally don't feel like other games are as good as Holdem. There's something very pure about it imho RE: Texas Holdem - Skills game - Wilmer - Nov 23, 2025 Completely agree with that statement. I was super interested in watching the tournaments starting around middle school and still watch some from time to time. We had house games with friends for $5-10 buy ins and usually around 8-9 people. It's definitely rooted in skill while also have some small modicum of luck involved. I've never tried to keep up with the cards too much as far as percentages like the pros do. It's impressive to me how they'll be playing love and can call the odds of one of their cards being turned over as fast as they do. Do you play any or more a fan of watching or perhaps neither? Stake.us has an okay hold em setup as well as a few other social casino sites. I was pretty good at it. In terms of statistics, I always found that if you are rushed or trying to have fun in a short time, it's easier to make mistakes or jump in on bad odds. If you play with time and understand that you may not have a good hand statistically every time, then you can make sure to not risk too much. I always play the best holdem when I have all the time in the world and am willing to be a little bored RE: Texas Holdem - Skills game - JoshAllen - Nov 23, 2025 (Nov 23, 2025 01:07 PM)nodes Wrote: I haven't played in a couple years now, but would love to play again soon. I would love if we could do a holdem tournament on here but with Bytes? I had a little success early on with luck but that's it exactly. The person with the most patience usually comes ahead more games than they don't. I've had some games last 6-7 hours easy. Ton of fun if have time for it. We could use one of the sites or apps that use fake money and then just send the winner however many bytes agreed upon. RE: Texas Holdem - Skills game - i am - Nov 25, 2025 Holdem is the best variation IMO and is without a doubt skill based, I don't know who would ever argue against that. RE: Texas Holdem - Skills game - Lefty - Nov 26, 2025 I have always been a blackjack type of person but I really want to learn hold 'em to play with my grandpa |
